@captainaryan26 It's crazy to think about it, but LotR probably is not that good for new readers because all that Tolkien created has been diluted among every known movie, game, and book fantasy in the world. So it just won't hit like something new or unique, although it was very unique when it first came out. Still a pretty fucking good book tho.

@@kwekkerThe Well of Ascension was actually Ruin's prison. Ruin had manipulated the world into thinking releasing him was the right think to do, and Rashek (the one who would become the Lord Ruler) knew that the hero would release Ruin. To stop this, he killed the hero and used Ruin's power to try to help the world,* and delayed Ruin's escape by a millenia. *He moved the planet closer to the sun to weaken the mist, which harmed people at the time, but the planet became too hot. So he created the ashmounts, to block the sun's heat, but the ash was bad for the life on the planet. So he changed the life. Plants and people (now split between the nobles and the skaa) became sturdier, and bacteria now ate ash.

For those who don't know, this is a clip from his lecture series on his KZitem channel. It's 3 years old, but still the best resource for aspiring writers. Same here. I've been working on a fantasy universe for 10 years, at least. Several novels and short stories started, none of them finished. I finally decided idea that my newest work is the one that should be released first, seeing as how it takes place the earliest in the timeline. It's a struggle. Keep going, my friend.

I was fortunate as a child, both my parents read often and that led my brother and I to develop a love for reading at a young age. Over the past few years, I’ve been diving into the Cosmere and Sanderson is the only author that has impacted me in such a way. I have slowly been working my way through his Cosmere but I can say with confidence it is the best reading experience I’ve ever had and so far in my life, it’s been a life changing experience.
