Frans Brüggen remains the immortal master of the recorder and the musical inspiration of an entire generation of amateur and professional musicians ... I was granted the honour of singing Mozart´s Requiem under his baton with the Orchestra of the 18th Century in Perugia, Italy in the summer of 2009, only 5 years before his death in 2014 ... I was mesmerized by the vigorous musicianship of my youth´s idol, even at a time when he was supported by one of his own children while going up and down the conductor´s stand ... May he rest in peace and may his memory and musical heritage last forever!

@@acyutanandadas1326 playing permanently is against music, at least with regard to the flute and recorder. you have to breathe to play right, because the composer's intention was to play this music on an instrument where you need to breathe but you just have to understand the music.

I was so very fortunate to have been introduced to Bruggen's playing in some of the little churches in Amsterdam, when I lived there in the seventies. I played his records endlessly, in my tiny bedsitter, especially loving his 'Art of the Recorder'. Bruggen and Gustav Leonhardt playing together, will always represent perfection in music to my mind.

Just all that it is playing this instrument, tempo in the right place, really virtuous choice of not too fast not too slow. The end of phrases, the articulation, I'll guess all single tonguing, which is the most charming. Thinking this days a lot about Frans and all the icebreakers from his time, Morgan, Bruce Haynes, Harnoncourt.

How, all my notes are only on it if I play at 392 in B flat major on a 4th flute as if with a treble, and the 415 strings in D major…”

Wow, have long been a fan of Frans Bruggen and have only just discovered this. It is wonderul, lively and beautiful. Those who think of classical music as stuffy and conservative should look up the life of Frans Bruggen - he once took part in a demo against the Amsterdam Concertgebouw for its inward, conservative approach to music. And of course he was one of those leading pioneers of period instruments and more authentic performances of baroque and classical styles.

I had a front row seat and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
