As an adoptee myself, nothing makes me cry like horse "adoption" videos. I know it's hard for them and doesn't always work, but when it does it's just pure and beautiful. Exactly how it should be in the human world, but many who adopt don't realize it truly takes a special person.

People think adoption is "child shopping" NO! It is a humanitarian act of service. First priority is ALWAYS reunification, and every adopted child lives with some trauma that an adoptive guardian MUST be willing to accommodate, even if the child didn't have any known abuse and/or was very young for removal and placement. So many people don't understand this.

Lactation can be induced in non-parturient mares that have foaled in previous years using a treatment that includes estrogen, progesterone, and a dopamine D2 antagonist (sulpiride or domperidone) [2,3]. The initial treatment protocol for induction of lactation in mares consisted of a 2-wk treatment in which progesterone, estrogen, and a dopamine D2 antagonist (sulpiride) were administered daily [2,4]. Mares were milked 1 - 2 days after the start of sulpiride treatment, and in some experiments, milking was continued after the end of treatment [2]. The results of these studies clearly indicated that lactation can be induced in mares that have foaled in previous years. Perhaps the most encouraging observation was that when regular milking (6 - 7 times/day) was continued after the end of hormonal treatment, milk production continued at a constant rate for 7 or more days.

I have heard that this can happen (keyword can, I’m sure it’s rare) in humans as well. I’m not sure the ins and outs of it, whether hormones are needed or not but I do remember this used to be a ‘thing’ back before vaccines/modern medicine where babies would die often and when a mother would lose her child she could nurse another baby or something and even during slavery as well. Don’t quote me though I’m giving very vague information but I had to blurt it out because it reminded me! lol.

Only if they have previously had their own foals. They will give the mare shots of a medication that makes her start producing a full supply of milk again. Like they said, the foal will still need to receive some milk replacer, sometimes short term, sometimes they need it the whole time because the mare may not produce the full amount needed or it may not be the best quality to help the foal grow, but the social skills they get from having some form of nursing and interacting with a mare is so important.

Sorry for your loss of this little baby's mama. 😢 That had to be very hard. I'm happy she has a new mama. If people were more like animals, we'd be a better society. 🤔

I’m so impressed by that mare! Everything she does in this video just shows how intelligent and confident and put together she is, even the way she walked into the trailer. You are so lucky!

Must be so devastating losing her Mum after she was born & having such a rough start to life, but wonderful that a new Mum adopted her.

@@tom-ss2mn Well yeah, after a while, females don’t produce milk so they have to get it started up again, probably by suckling attempts

I love horses so very much. They are used often in Equine therapy for people with PTSD (I am a War Vet). This video makes my heart so full and happy 🥰❤️🙏🏼

What a Beautiful thing. So interesting to know that a mare can produce milk even though she didn’t give birth. Miracles from God ❤️🙏

The pure trust that baby animals have in us is incredibly heartwarming. We don’t deserve such pure and innocent babies 😍🤩 I’m so glad for the happy ending ❤
