Ah yes, 'teeth'. Since those aren't covered by most insurance, I like to call them "luxury bones"

In my experience dental insurance is WAY cheaper and more reliable than health insurance. And that's saying something. The OOP fees are more reasonable, preventive care is cheap as chips. It's the unexpected nastiest of car accidents and root canals from systemic diseases and other poor habits that gets you there.

I've come across many back in the day that never told you about flossing or washing or anything preventative and that would kill the nerve just for the expensive future implants. since we joined the EU a lot of dentists have to abide by human rights and modern laws. now young dentists teach about preventative care and fear the google reviews so they actually sterilize their instruments and mostly give you fillings that don't fall out and even try and save our nerve and now anesthetic is mandatory and included in the price. I grew up in the wilderness now looking back, nice to be in a somewhat civilized society.

My dentist was the first one of my doctors to tell me my hypertension was a problem and that I would only be able to manipulate it with deep breathing for so long. She also made it a point to tell me I didn't have white coat syndrome because I am not scared or nervous at the dentist. Apparently most people aren't happy when at the dentist or comfortable enough to take a nap without sedation during fillings and other in office procedures. Unfortunately, she was correct about my hypertension, one of the causes of my headaches, my reflux/GERD and a few other "non dental" related medical issues. The mouth is a window into your body and overall health.

@@ThatGirlJD As a PA, I don't know a lot about the teeth or the mouth honestly. But I remember looking up some sort of spot in a patients mouth and I was blown away by what I learned. I guess I had learned about symptoms of systemic issues that occur in the mouth, while learning about eCh condition separately, but I hadn't looked at it the other way around. The mouth truly is a window to the body!

@@alyssah3087 that’s also the case for the eye examination which provides physician with a great deal of findings to detect systemic disorders which is quite fascinating.
