Great Q and A! I was really getting into the livestream when it began breaking up (right near the portion about God communicating, in my case). 😊

Genesis 16 An angel of the Lord came to Hagar. The angel said "I will give you a son who will be called Ishmael because I have heard your cry for help. Someday I will give you so many descendants that no one will be able to count them all. Hagar said, "Have I really seen God and lived to tell about it?" From then on she called him The God Who Sees Me. Sadly, after Sarah and Hagar disputed Ishmael was kept from attending the same school that Isaac went to that was the preferred education. He was said to become a wild and argumentative man so I guess that the slaves children did not enjoy the same enriched environment that Isaac did. I may not be quoting the exact chapter right. You might check on that.

It is speculated that John Wesley was ordained a bishop by Erasmus of Arcadia before John came to America. Erasmus is also speculated to have ordained 2 others as priests to come with John Wesley. None of this has ever been confirmed though...

Although not addressing surrogacy Galatians 4 Hagar and Sarah 21 Tell me, you who want to be under the law, are you not aware of what the law says? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by the slave woman and the other by the free woman. 23 His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise. One was born of the promise (Sarah's son) the other of the flesh(Hagar's son).

From what I can tell in Genesis 16 an angel of the Lord came to Hagar and said "I will give you a son who will be called Ishmael because I have heard your cry for help. Someday I will give you so many descendants that no one will be able to count them all." Hagar said, "Have I really seen God and lived to tell about it? From then on she called him The God Who Sees Me. As she was a slave she could not have said no to Sarah's request to sleep with Abraham. Sadly after the women disputed Ishmael was kept from schooling with Sarah's son and he grew wilder in an environment that was not as preferable. Perhaps the exact verses and chapters are not the same as I do not currently own the Orthodox version of the Bible but I think it's very close from the Orthodox internet source.
