I've now owned 2 Beach LT kayaks for 4 years. I have set them up a hundred times. They're still good as new and they're surprisingly rigid when assembled. As Dave has basically said, it can only get easier with a little practice and he's correct. I can set them both up in 10 minutes. I use them for week long backwoods portage/camping trips. They easily hold 30L drybags in the bow and stern and more bags behind the seat or at feet if needed. At just 25lb, it's an easy carry for long portages. An equally light canoe or kayak is more than $4000 where I live. I just strap these on my Gladiator Diamondback cover, load the bed with other gear and I'm gone. You know what they say, don't knock it until you've tried it. Cheers!

To sum up, it is a fully functional kayak. Compared to a traditional one, you gain a reduction in length so it is easier to store and can fit inside of a mid to large size vehicle instead of on top/outside. The package it folds up into is still big and now uses space inside your vehicle. You lose durability, set-up time (this is minor since, as Dave said, lashing a kayak properly to the roof takes some time), complexity (if one part is lost or fails...) and it is relatively expensive. My opinion is you don't gain enough to justify the price but if you absolutely need the more compact storage/transport size, you might want to consider it.

I’d love to see an “on the waters edge” series updated with this kind of new and interesting gear. I know he’s insanely busy now, but Canterbury series from back in day were solid gold.

I reccomend a car wash sponge in every canoe/kayak for bailing/cleaning. Between land and water is usually mud and water always drips from paddles

Everything about this make is great. Just be careful you don't come in hot to any dock or you may chip a tiny piece of the canopy out unlike molded kayaks, obviously. These are so much easier to travel with and everybody seems to be impressed with it. You can throw it in your trunk and no one would even know you have it, and if you pass a lake it gives you the option to go kayaking. It's a win-win and very affordable.

Great info Dave I could see this being a great portable option that can be stored out of sight. I have two kayaks one lifetime and one old town pdl and you are correct by the time you get it unloaded and to the site you can carry the 25lbs and assemble that much easier, perfect for the purpose it was designed for.

A fair and reasonable trial. While I don't ever see one of those in my future it will certainly fill a need for some folks. There's a lot of different kayaks and canoes for different purposes and that's one.

I really like my Oru. It just makes it super easy to spend more time out on the water. Sure, it isn't going to be the choice for a multi-day expedition, but it can live in the back of my Jeep all summer. I never have kick myself next to a lake or reservoir, "Boy, it sure is a nice day for a paddle. Pity I didn't think to bring a boat." Even if I have to carry it to a better launch point, it only weighs twenty-five pounds.

A friend of mine has an older model he has had for years, forget which model they still make today. Its a bit shorter but he stands by it and abuses it often in a few local ponds and even a creek. Reminds me of the old school wooden framed Klepper and Folbot folding Kayaks.
Glad to see the ole’ traveler moving so fast. Boat very reminiscent of the legionary “folbot” kayak. Good work brother.

Nice video, Dave! I've been curious about this boat and you have made up my mind. Not for me. I would have liked to see you run it with a payload up to the specs limit. I've seen your other vid on the inflatable raft and that looked like it had emergency water crossing potential. I'd like to see you do a tryout video on a real folding kayak like a Klepper, Nautiraid or better yet the US version of one of these. With a payload of around 800 pounds for a tandem, it obviously has potential, the military using it for raids, but would make an awesome survival vehicle. Just a suggestion, and an entertaining video.
