This engine was obtained second-hand and during disassembly it was evident that the engine had been worked on previously. Besides the fact that it disassembled quite easily some parts were worked on.
The owner ran the engine but was concerned about low compression.
I found that the piston ring was stuck in the groove, the sleeve was sanded or honed to remove what looked like damage from rust.
I had to lap the valves lightly to clean and the cam was the wrong way around with the timing dot facing inward.
I honed the sleeve until smooth and replaced the bearings and O-rings.
The first run was done as a break-in run and after some tuning, the engine ran very well with much better compression.
