Bypassing Tokyo and Kyoto Ainsley travels to Osaka. It’s not usually on the tourist trail but it’s irresistible for Ainsley, even the Japanese call this city Japan’s Kitchen. In Osaka people greet each other with the challenge ‘Kuidaore’ or ‘Eat yourself Bankrupt’. This is the city that invented the motorized Sushi belt and the Pot Noodle and invention is at the heart of so much of the street food here.
In Osaka Ainsley discovers the art of making Okonomiyaki; it’s like an English breakfast wrapped in a pancakes and in Japan it’s a street food sensation! Ainsley seeks out the most exciting Isakaya pubs where they serve tapas Japanese style, small plates of amazing food for young workers on their way home.
