Every once in a while I think, 'Oscar Peterson couldn't really be that incredible' Then I listen to songs like this and I think, 'OH YA, he was that incredible!'

Oscar Peterson was quite simply one of the greatest artists on the instrument of the piano. He was also one of the greatest swinging pianists. And he could play bebop, blues and the gentlest of ballads with equal facility. RIP

you can see that peterson's music is a story, because he's grumbling it and facing it while he plays, sometimes he laughs while fast riffs, it's all about feelings, he's amazing !

wow... swinging like no tomorrow. It's pretty much magic when you feel a group of jazz musicians "come together" on a song and it just explodes... again, wow! I love the humming at the beginning, reminds me of Herb Ellis and my guitar teacher Dale Bruning.

I saw Joe with Oscar Peterson at Ontario Place in Toronto in the late 70's I believe. What a night of great playing! Joe just shone. He did an unbelievable Stella by Starlight. And Peterson played like God. This quartet is really cooking. Joe looks like he's loving standing by waiting for his bars, listening to the great Oscar.

I think it's remarkable that you can hear him hum, for a few reasons. One, try humming and playing two handed jazz piano some time, it doesn't exactly mesh if you're not used to it. Secondly, it just goes to show how into the music he was, and how he could almost forsee what he would play next before he even played it. Incredible.

@jazzyazz ; A lovely thought. I remember watching a newscast which featured a finding by the medical community regarding the newborn. Apparently science & psychiatric medicine determined that Classical music was critical in hardwiring the minds of the newborn. I also remember thinking at the time that they must have reached the same conclusion with Jazz however with network news and prime time constraints this fact was left on the cutting room floor).
