Many of you may know that "Ose Shalom" is one of the most famous Jewish songs, written in 1969 by Nurit Hirsch. What you may not know is that when I was seven years old, I had a chance to perform this song with Nurit in Israel. When I came on stage, she noticed I still had my chewing gum in my mouth, and held out her hand, demanding I spit my gum out. Years later I got the chance to perform this piece for Pope Francis during his visit to New York, and again here for the PBS Special: The New York Cantors. Needless to say, I have a long and special relationship with this piece. I hope you enjoy it!
