This is a really good review! I have both bags. I prefer the 20L waterproof and can attest it IS WATER PROOF. Tested on a speed boat in Kauai with success. I prefer having two side pockets, a waist strap, and the front zippered pocket. The organization is much better. The roll top customizes if you dont need the full 20L. I still use the 18L stuff pack as a back up or when another in my party needs it. It works well as a personal item on flights.

Thanks for that. I checked out this review bcos I was interested in the waterproof 1 but by the end I was leaning more towards the 18l cos I figured I could improve the waterproofing on the zippers with candling. But, you raise a good point. I don't think I'd normally need 20l from a daypack (considering waterbottles can go on outside, which is what mostly necessitates a daypack for me; everything else fits in my sling and can tie a jacket around my waist) but if I can vary the capacity then I can use this for groceries or even laundry if required, or day use stuff (anything from extra layers to swim gear). So, for me, the waterproof 1 is a winner now, bcos it's really a drybag + daypack all in 1 (that means that it has more uses than just a daypack eg. keeping bag contents dry if laundered clothes are still slightly damp etc) 🤗

My entire family got the 20L waterproof ultra dry packs and they were plenty enough room for our 2 week trip to costa rica - plus they definitely got wet and nothing leaked! looking forward to using it as my sole carry-on (yep, we travel light!) for my upcoming trips abroad! travel economy, travel light, no checked bag fees! woo hoo! Oh, and the roll top means that if you don't need waterproofness, you can stuff way more than 20L of clothing and stuff into it. and the loops for caribiners are great! side pockets also great for just stuff!

Nice review, but after a recent trip with a backpack and a carryon suitcase, I've decided I will never purchase another backpack that does not have a trolly sleeve to go over a suitcase handle. The one I recently used became rather heavy and when I tried to balance it on the suitcase it was very awkward to maneuver through the airports.
@NoraDunn

I'm with you, Joyce! But I don't suggest these backpacks be used on travel days - that's why they're packable! They're simply not sturdy enough to be used as a personal item. Instead, I pack them in my carry-on, and then I use them at my destination for outings, hikes, even groceries, etc.

Interesting strategy! It would be a lot lighter than the "Scrubba" wash bag which is designed for hand laundry on the road but is MUCH heavier and bulkier. Are you referring to the old version Osprey Stuff Pack 18L and the current one (which was very recently redesigned)? I believe they're almost identical. The biggest difference is that the new one is made with Bluesign approved recycled materials.
@almidamar
Жыл бұрын
@@NoraDunn yes I’m talking about the old version compared to this new one. Osprey doesn’t specify the exact weight and packed size which to me is important when buying a backpack that’s meant to be light and packable. I can see the new one has some new features, like the sternum strap and 2 external water pockets instead of 1, plus the straps are redesigned, so I think it’s a little heavier and bulkier but can’t say for sure without seeing them in person
