Detailed commentary and analysis by Claire's Notes of Act V, scene ii, ll 1-166 of Othello by William Shakespeare
In this final scene, Othello has gone to Desdemona, who is sleeping in their bed. He is still tortured by what he feels compelled to do. He knows that he has to kill her for justice to be served but he is still under the spell of her physical beauty. He awakens her with a kiss and demands that she pray to God for absolution of any sins that she has committed. Desdemona, however, is not prepared to give up without a fight. Will she be able to talk him round or will Emilia be able to save her...?
