I’m really great at hitting the TOP of bridges when I try to side arm a bait low under them 😆. My 7 year old is on his 2nd year of using a bait caster. He’ll pass Daddy by the end of this year I’m sure! God Bless all!

I'm realizing that with a sidearm cast there's a smoother acceleration of the spool and path to the water because there's no arc like with an overhead cast. Greatly reduces the potential of backlashing.

I know you may not see this. I have some older crankin sticks. Kind of brown in color. How do the new ones compare to the old ones? I love these for my bait casters and am reluctant to buy anything else. Money is hard to come by for me, but I bought a spare baitcasting reel to match my favorite, sorry but my favorite is a Daiwa Tatula. So I need one more good but not big money rod.

Due to my back I cannot stand for very long before I have use my front seat. The side cast works well for me then. And yes Ive hit everything on the boat.

Make sure you set your tension knob so that when you bait hits the ground, it won’t backlash. If you have breaks on the other side, set them to zero while you adjust the tension. Once you get it to not backlash when it hits the ground, then move the breaks on the other side to 7-9. That should get you going but won’t cast to far. But this gives you time to work on keeping slight pressure with your thumb on the spool. Then just keep practicing. Don’t try to cast to hard. Nice smooth movement. Watch Ott’s other videos on casting and practice practice practice. You’ll get it. God Bless!

Get a Daiwa tatula sv TW. They are around $220. You will not bird’s nest. Best bait caster I ever used. Windy days & light lures no backlash.
