@TheTechReviewer

Hi Jennifer! If you want to maximize your protection and your grip (perhaps really important if you have a kid playing around with your phone), you might want to go with the traditional, old school, non-MagSafe Defender case. I didn't review that version for the iPhone 12 series...just the MagSafe compatible Defender XT...so I am basing my Defender information on the iPhone 11 series Defender. The Defender XT is a good case, but I think it sacrifices something in order to be MagSafe compatible. The back is slick, and there isn't that much protection for your rear camera. It doesn't have that rugged, rubber exterior you might be expecting for a Defender case. The Symmetry is a great case, but lighter duty than the Defender. And Mous's Limitless 4.0 is a great case as well, but I think that the Defender, while big and bulky, probably provides better overall protection, and should provide much better overall grip. Hope this helps!
@JenTorresGroup

@@TheTechReviewer So to ensure I understand, non-magsafe defender is best and 2nd choice is magsafe defender XT. I had the apple clear magsafe case on the iphone 12 pro max and it fell from a kitchen counter top. The the back plus the case cracked. I now have a replacement. I think the defender will make the phone too big for my small purses. I believe the magsafe defender XT will still be a step up and I am willing to take the risk to have the convenience of mag safe. Thank you so much!

I just got one today but I’m waiting on my defender Pro XT with MagSafe, I don’t really trust symmetry’s anymore after my brothers second V60 thinq’s back glass shattered after a back first drop in a symmetry case but than again the same phone (his first V60 thinq) back glass also shattered after he accidentally dropped it back first in a Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro, so maybe it’s that particular phone but still, I’m kinda weary about the symmetry after that.

Hi JH Entertainment! No experience with the V60 Thinq, but I have always been happy with my Symmetry cases. I don't drop my phones, so I can't comment on that aspect of the case personally, but my husband (who is much less careful than me and does drop his phones!) has used Symmetry cases on his iPhones for years, and has had zero issues. His are just ordinary 3-4 ft drops though...nothing extreme. Hope you love your Defender Pro XT! I hope to get one to review in future!

Trying to choose between Symmetry + or Otterbox Aneu. Like Symmetry + provides more protection but saw some complains at Best Buy customers reviews that Qi wireless charger or 3rd party Magsafe charger can't charge on Symmetry +. Didn't see you actually test with any Qi wireless charger. Although saw you put on Apple Magsafe pod easily but didn't turn over to see screen showing charging. I did see another reviewer showing Otterbox Aneu can work easily with Qi wireless charger and Apple Magsafe charger with actual charging in its video. Symmetry + might be too thick for wireless charging? What do you think?
@TheTechReviewer
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Shelley! Sorry, I should have turned the Symmetry Series+ over so you could see that beautiful charging screen. So, yes--it works great with Apple's MagSafe charger, but it also works very well with regular Qi wireless chargers as well. The Symmetry Series+ is one of my favorite cases for my 12 Pro and I have used it a lot. And I use almost exclusively Qi wireless chargers around my home. I only have one MagSafe charger, so I end up using regular Qi wireless chargers the majority of the time, and there has been absolutely no problem. And you are right that the Symmetry Series+ is going to provide significantly better protection than the Aneu for your phone. If I were you, I'd choose the Symmetry Series+...

Hi Marina! This case will only work with the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, and those phones have MagSafe functionality built in. If you have an earlier generation of iPhone, you can get a Symmetry case, but it won't be MagSafe. Also, if you have an iPhone 12 or 12 Pro and you don't want magnets in your phone case, you can choose the regular Symmetry case from OtterBox for the 12/12 Pro--it doesn't have the MagSafe magnets. There are two Symmetry versions for this year's iPhone--the Symmetry Series+ (which has built in magnets to make it MagSafe) and the Symmetry (which has no magnets inside and is not MagSafe). Hi @hondapilot. Well, not as grippy, but MagSafe, which the Presidio2 Grip is not. Both have antimicrobial protection. The Presidio2 Grip has a higher drop rating, at 13 feet, but Speck doesn't say how many times it can withstand drops of that height. The Symmetry Series+ focuses on the number of drops it can survive, more than the height--it is rated for 78 drops of a 4 ft height. (Normal military standard drop protection level is 26 four ft drops). Both are really nice cases--just different.

I have an Otterbox Commuter for iPhone 12 Pro Max, and it's quite slippery on the back and sides. very heavy but the worst defect in my opinion is that in the volume and power button area, the plastic is too soft and does not protect well from dust and more, it gives me this feeling. So I don't know whether to try a Simmetry, or buy a Mous or Catalyst
@TheTechReviewer
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Davide! The Symmetry does not have that wiggly rubber feeling around the buttons--there is some give, but not much. I've always preferred the Symmetry to the Commuter. Hello how are you? Do you know how many feet of drop protection symmetry case is?

@TheTechReviewer
3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lucas! You are right--the RhinoShield SolidSuit is on the slippery side. It's a great case, but not terribly grippy. I think the best SolidSuit this year in terms of grip is the Carbon Fiber Finish...not sure which SolidSuit version you have. This Symmetry Series+ case is going to give you a bit more grip than the SolidSuit and it is going to provide good protection for your phone. Whether it is more or less protective than the SolidSuit is very hard to evaluate--this case is rated for 3x military drop test standard protection--which means it is tested to survive 78 four foot drops. The SolidSuit is rated for an 11 ft drop...but they don't say how many 11 ft drops it can take. As you are more likely to drop your phone from 4 ft than 11 ft, it could be argued that the Symmetry is more protective :-) And of course, the Symmetry Series+ is a MagSafe case, which is great if you are planning to use the MagSafe charger, wallet or other accessories. Good luck with your decision!

Is this as protective as the tech21 Evo check case? Which one is better at blocking dust and debris from under and the sides of the case?
@TheTechReviewer
3 жыл бұрын
I haven't reviewed any Tech21 products for a while, but they typically have pretty large openings for the ports. That isn't great in terms of dust protection. As far as drop protection is concerned, OtterBox is focusing on the number of drops their cases can survive, as opposed to drop height. I believe the Tech21 Evo Check is rated for a drop of over 10 ft, while the OtterBox Symmetry Series+ is rated for a 4 ft drop...but the Symmetry Series+ is rated to survive 78 four foot drops, which is a lot! Tech21 doesn't say how many drops their cases are rated for...at least that was the situation when I last reviewed them. Both are good cases, but I would say that the OtterBox Symmetry is a better case overall. It's the case I have on my phone right now :-)

Hi Jared! First of all, deep breath! It will come off. I happen to have the Symmetry Series+ on my iPhone 12 Pro right now, and I just took it off about a half an hour ago to look at another case (Mous Infinity), so believe me--it is entirely doable. (In fact, the Symmetry Series+ is one of my most used cases, because I like it a lot, so I take it on and off often). So, just start in the top right hand corner and push gently but firmly until that corner comes free. Then move down to the bottom right corner and do the same thing. Once those two corners are free, just pull the phone gently out of the other side--it should come out easily.

“Perfect amount of grip” straight up lying dropped my phone so many times even testing this theory
@TheTechReviewer
3 жыл бұрын
Sorry, Gio! Grip is a really subjective thing--what one person finds grippy may not work for another person. And how much grip is desirable really varies between people. For example, the Speck CandyShell Grip and original Presidio Grip cases are super, super grippy, with rubber grip lines all over them, and they feel extremely secure in the hand. Love those cases! However, over a longer use period, they kind of drive me nuts because they are too grippy to be able to slide easily in and out of pockets. They catch on everything. And so I tend to gravitate toward less grippy cases. My favorite type of case, the 'perfect amount of grip' for me, is one with a little bit of grip that is still going to slide easily into pockets and handbags. The Symmetry Series+ has exactly that degree of grip for me. Love this case...it is on my 12 Pro right now. Thanks for watching, and sharing your experience with the case. And have a wonderful day!

Which would you say offers the best protection? This Otterbox Symmetry Series+ case or the Mous Limitless 3.0?
@TheTechReviewer
3 жыл бұрын
Hi @fightingblindly! That is a tough question. With the Symmetry Series+, you have a case backed by a well respected company which is known for its protective cases. I think that the research and testing which went into the Symmetry Series+ case are probably very solid. That much said, the Symmetry Series+ is not the most protective of OtterBox's cases. The most protective OtterBox case for the iPhone 12 series is the Defender Series XT with MagSafe, which is going to provide 5x military drop test standard protection, as opposed to the the Symmetry Series+, which provides 3x military drop test standard protection. So if you are going for the most protective OtterBox case, I would go for the Defender XT with MagSafe. I haven't actually reviewed the Defender XT with MagSafe yet, but I've heard good things. It is supposed to be very similar to the Pursuit case OtterBox had a few years ago, which was quite outstanding. And this new version has MagSafe! Is either of these cases more protective than the Mous Limitless 3.0? That's a tough question to answer. I really like the Mous products--the Limitless 3.0 and Clarity cases are among my favorite iPhone cases. They are well made, well designed and seem like they should provide excellent protection for your phone. However, the company irritates me a bit because despite their claims of 'extreme protection', they don't give their cases any drop rating at all. I think this makes their products hard to compare to other cases. In all fairness, OtterBox used to do something similar, and only with the advent of the iPhone 12 series phone cases have they started listing drop ratings for their cases. I wish Mous would do the same. So, if I had to guess, and rank all three of these cases in protectiveness, I would probably say that the Symmetry Series+ is the least protective and the Defender XT with MagSafe and the Limitless 3.0 might be roughly equivalent. But again, I'm just guessing here! All are nice cases, and personally, I feel perfectly comfortable with the level of protection the slim and lovely Symmetry Series+ case provides!

@TheTechReviewer
3 жыл бұрын
"Too bulky" is such a subjective statement 😀 . And I understand the desire to keep the 12 pro max as slim as possible, because it is such a big phone. I personally think that the Symmetry Series+ is protective enough to make me feel comfortable using it (although I have only reviewed the Symmetry Series+ for the 12 Pro and not the 12 Pro Max), but some people might find its lip to be too shallow. Those folks might be more comfortable with the Defender XT for MagSafe. And the lip design on the Mous Limitless 3.0 really appeals to some folks...the way it is low in the middle and higher on the top and bottom provides good protection to your screen while making the phone case feel slimmer in the hand. So many choices!!

Hi what’s the difference between the otterbox aneu case vs the otterbox symmetry + case for iPhone 12 Pro? One is sold on apple and one is sold via the otterbox website... are you able to tell me what the difference is?
@TheTechReviewer
3 жыл бұрын
Sure! I haven't actually reviewed the Aneu yet (although I am hoping to get a review sample soon), but I did see it in my local Apple store and in comparison to the Symmetry Series+, it is a little thinner and lighter and less protective feeling overall. According to OtterBox's website, the Aneu and the Figura cases are rated for the standard number of drops (26) needed for military drop test certification. (Mil-Spec drop protection testing is a series of 26 four foot drops at various angles which the device should survive.) The Symmetry Series+ cases are rated for 3 times as many drops (78), but at the same 4 ft drop height. So your Symmetry Series+ cases are going to provide significantly more protection, but the Aneu and Figura cases should provide decent drop protection as well. Hope this helps! And thanks for watching!

Thanks, nice review. After watching this I ordered this case for a 13 Pro Max that hasn’t arrived yet. The case arrived and I noticed they stuck a sticker on the box, marking it as “for iPhone 2021 X-Large and iPhone 12 Pro Max”. Given the thickness increase in the 13 Pro series I wonder if the case will actually fit properly. I hate to wait til the phone arrives to find that I don’t have a usable case for it. BTW I also ordered the Otter Amplify Glass, and they did the same marking on that box (with a sticker), though AFAIK the screen of the 13 PM and 12PM are the same size so that one should be OK (I hope).

Hi Bill! So, case companies don’t know the names of the newly launching phones, so they often use that kind of terminology in temporarily naming their accessories.
