Oudesluis is a village in the municipality of Schagen, in the province of North Holland. It is located on the Grote Sloot.
Oudesluis was founded shortly after the Zijpe was reclaimed. It was situated on the Wadden-like extensions of the Zuiderzee. In 1742 it was the largest centre of Zijpe for a while; it had approximately 68 houses. The inhabitants were then mainly labourers, craftsmen, fishermen and boatmen. And of course there was a lock keeper for the lock. The village name is probably derived from the fact that the lock was one of the first locks built in the area. Oudesluis was a mooring place for VOC ships that chose the sea inlet via the Marsdiep, and it was also the home port for a fishing fleet. When the Anna Paulownapolder was constructed in 1845, Oude Sluis was cut off from the sea.
