Only just seen this, quality stuff. This challenge/race concept is what turned TG into a must watch show for the masses (although got rather boring when they decided to do it every week and often with supercars). I see you have taken plenty of elements from them and I have to say its pretty well executed so far. Not sure the points is wholly necessary, as long as its fun and entertaining everyone's a winner! But mini challenges like the fuel economy will be interesting. I have been waiting so long for someone to do this format justice (new TG rarely does, BBC dont seem to realise that it helps if the presenter are actually into cars!). I have seen mini-versions on CarThrottle, but they rarely exceed 20mins - you have more than that on the intro! Will be watching part 2 tomorrow!

If you ever do a run like this again, perhaps an idea would be to try each others vehicles, for, say, 5 to 10 miles, and score them for things like ride comfort, noise level, comfort items (armrests, lecky windows, etc) performance, and the like. I drive a Transit Connect called 'Connie', and I'm pleased with her, although others are less impressed! I did have an 'Ugly Betty' Doblo Cargo, that I called Dobby, but the electrics started failing at an alarming rate, and when the dreaded 'Canbus Error' kept rearing it's head, and the clutch started slipping, it was time to say goodbye! the last $500 car i bought was a 1995 buick park avenue, with a 3.8 v6 i got in 2011. i had it to 100 mph, and there was more pedal to go. the park ave. was the ultra lux version of a buick lesabre. leather, power everything, ran like a champ, crashed in the front passenger side. the plastic fender was cracked, and the headlight was gone, so for $25 i got a headlight assembly and grill at the junkyard, put some sheet steel and screws in the fender, and i drove it for 4 years. it's still out behind my garage. put a battery in it and it'll start right up, but it has a wiring issue that i didn't want to spend a few hours sorting out, so i bought a mitsubishi mighty max pick up for $675. a couple of years later, the ring gear on the flywheel got so worn the starter wouldn't engage, so i bought a 2007 chrysler town and country mini van for $1000 that i am currently driving. then i sold my '93 ford f 150 4x4 with a lift kit for $2500 to get a geo metro rally car project, and bought a stock '94 f 150 4x4 farm truck at an auction for $1000. this is all within 4 years. this is why i have 6 trucks, 2 cars and a minivan. you're the only person i know who swaps vehicles more often than i do.

The lad with the van has my vote he brought food! Could you for those of us in the States let us know how many miles this is, and why is it so difficult. I am in the south western USA where a 800 miles in a day is easily done
@lmm

He did rather plan ahead! Oh something like a million miles. Honest. We live on a little island. We used to have little cars. Anything over an hour away is basically a long way here, plus our roads are very heavily used. The distances you guys travel is so alien to us. Oh, whole trip, little over a thousand miles.

I am not sure of the route they're taking (haven't watched episode 2), but having grown up in a similar pat of the country I know its what could be called 'the arse end of nowhere' - certainly in terms of transport links. The UK transport network has been designed so that London is the middle, all roads lead to London (look up UK motorway map). So, if you want to go to London, thats generally easy, and most routes north/south are fairly simple because all the roads lead to london at the bottom. But trying to go across the country is more difficult, there is pretty much only major road that goes east/west across the country, and it goes from London to Wales. There are obviously loads more roads, but they are smaller, slower, have roundabouts and you pretty much really need to know where you are going and make sure you get the right junctions, not to mention the likelihood of having to drive through, or if you are lucky, around, several towns. I have done lots of cross country driving avoiding motorways, I once done a trip that took 10 hours, but would have taken 5 1/2 on the motorway! So you can go from place to place quite fast, provided that both places are near a motorway. Then you get to wales, and they don't really have many roads there, but the ones they do have will be small and there will be mountains.

Changing the fuel line can be done. But you need patience, and the dexterity of a surgeon. I wouldnt want to try fitting the original part back on, but a braided hose will be easier to fit. And give you that racing car look 👍
