It’s worrying to think that despite all the therapy and support, traumatised children suffer such long term consequences. I always wanted to adopt, I don’t have any desire to have a biological child and my family did short term fostering when I was young. I love the concept of adoption but I’m so scared of my life being turned upside down. I keep hearing about experiences such as yours, and I don’t think I can or want to cope with such extreme challenges. I am coming to the conclusion adoption might not be for me (but who is it for, really? Who is equipped to deal with that level of trauma and having their whole life disrupted, forever?). I fear that most adopters, who are normal people like me, are unprepared and set up to fail…

Caterina, it’s so true that a lot of adopters aren’t prepared for the change that will come. Adoptions do vary greatly though and I know adopters that have a much easier path. They would probably watch my videos and not agree with me because it’s not what they have experienced. So I guess what I’m saying is, don’t give up on the idea... you sound like with your experiences, you could have a lot to offer.

Another great vlog. I can really relate to the challenges you face in terms of responding to your boys. Children in long term fostering placements can also experience the same issues. Thanks for sharing. 😊
