In Hawaii just south of Kona there is a zebra, horse looking thing but it's not painted! I have seen it several different times just driving through the countryside. I do appreciate you going through all of the tourist towns and telling us what you liked or didn't like. I have only been a bit south of Rosarita on the Northern part of Baja... although mainland Mexico I have been down the West coast as far as Mazatlan and all the way to Belize and back on the Eastern coast... Also up and down the Central part of Mexico driving around... Thanks for bringing up The T.I.P. issue... I have never had issues with it. You bring up a lot of great thoughts GRACIAS!!

Wonderful videos. Truly enjoyed this retrospective. I’m quite interested in relocating to Mexico, and as a Californian, Baja Norte is an obvious proximity choice. I’d be interested in two things: 1) how easy is it to live car-free in Ensenada. Public transport services to San Ysidro, CA, or other parts of BC/BCS? 2) Healthcare services in Ensenada, Rosarito, Tijuana.

Thank you! Ensenada should be a great choice for you. We were only in Ensenada for 3 months the first of 2023 and for a few days in July of 2023. From our perspective we could live fine utilizing public transportation and walking but it definitely depends on what area of Ensenada one lives. As to health services we only visited the drug store a few times while in Ensenada. What we would recommend is that you reach out to Carlos or his assistant Nayeli at Expat Guardian. They’re right there in Ensenada and definitely can give you the best advice. I did an episode with Carlos on our KZitem channel titled “Mexican residency” which premiered on March 6, 2023. A link to their website is: expatguardian.com/home/ We appreciate you joining us on the Journey and hope you’re having a great week! 😎

I can answer those questions. Yes, you can live car-free in Ensenada! I lived there car-free from 2021 until last March. After remote job layoff in March, I'm now staying with relatives in US until eligible for early Social Security in January. I do miss Ensenada and all the friends I made there!! I lived in the area of Costco/MacroPlaza, walking distance to about anything I'd need, even my church. [What's funny, at my rental I was watching Gene and Renee's latest video of them driving to MacroPlaza and they drove right by my place!] Instead of Uber, I used the much cheaper Didi and inDrive apps. These let you bid your fare price (within reason, of course) and the prospective driver will either accept or give you a counter offer. The apps do state a suggested price, so you'll know what's a fair offer. However, halfway through my time there, I started using the Ensenada busses. The Ensenada bus system routes and schedules are not published, not on paper nor online. You have to read the stops written on the back, side, and front glass of the bus. And know where those places are! But what I did was go to the major bus stop in front of the UABC campus on Reforma, next to the walk bridge. The other side of the bridge is between Calimax and MacroPlaza. Being a university stop, bus routes from all over come and go all the time. Knowing Spanish, I asked the students waiting for their bus which bus I should take to go to such-and-such a place. They were always helpful, as were the driver and other passengers who let me know when my stop was coming and where to catch a return bus. Bus fare was 13 pesos last time I used the bus. A few weeks before I left, Ensenada rolled out a new "Violet" bus system that had a route going downtown, which had stops at many hospitals in the Ensenada neighborhoods. This bus line is specifically for women, and is free for all women and free for any children they have riding with them In the area I lived, there were small hospitals and clinics all within walking distance. Of course, Farmacias Similares (chain of discount pharmacies) has a clinic next to their pharmacy, as Gene and Renee mentioned in one of their videos. But they didn't mention about Farmacias Similares' Good Monday (El Buen Lunes) sales. On Mondays, everything they sell is 25% off. I didn't find that out until my last two months there. A friend told me OXXO also has Monday discounts, but I've not had chance to personally verify that. Another tip: don't miss the annual Oaxaca festival (and the Oaxacan tamales!) when the "Union de productores y artesanos oaxaqueños" come for a week at Ensenada's Plaza Misión (a shopping plaza on Calle 11 and Reforma--you can get there by bus). They travel with annual fairs all over Baja and have a Facebook page. I see it starts tomorrow, the first time I've missed it since coming to Ensenada.😢

Cabos is crazy & expensive and they have to pay higher prices for water and etc. Tourists spot. Mulege, Loreto are the best place and the Nopolo community. The beaches in this region are the best (visit Oct to May). Otherwise, it gets hot.
