What is the point of paying rent on a booth with no security cameras? That vandalism was no accident, or children messing around.

I've been a reseller for a long time. Primarily online...We opened our first of 2 booths at Black Rose in Chambersburg in 2018. We had stuff stolen, broken, found gum wrappers in our stoneware crocks. The icing on the cake was a big wad of "used" chewing tobacco in one of the crocks we had. Nothing surprises me anymore. I've come to the conclusion that there are a lot of scumbags in the world.

I always thought of mid-mod as so “old-fashioned” when I was growing up, mostly because my parents had a lot of it. They hired a decorator when they built our ranch home in 1963, and it stayed the same until they sold it in the 90s. As an adult, I have fallen in love with the style. Oh, how I wish I had asked them to give me the beautiful furniture and accessories that they probably sold for peanuts at their moving sale 😭

About 8 years ago I had a couple of booths at a flea market in springfield, misery. The place was called the S... T... D... (The old occupants of the building was Springfield Tool &Die) Flea market. It's kind of like your antique mall, but different. I had some items stolen out of my booth that I pretty much know was an inside job. When I asked the manager about it he kind of acted kind of weird and then when I asked to see the video footage the video cameras were conveniently not working. Another problem that I used to have was I would find other people's stuff in my booth and I would walk around and find my stuff in other people's booths. My advice to you is to get some video cameras and put them into your booth. Have a couple of them in plain sight and others hidden. I wish I would have done that when I had those antique booths. I was so angry I just packed up all my stuff and left and told him to take their little flea market and shove it.

There's a game interior designers use when it comes to furniture. The Lane pieces are a step end and a cocktail. Calling them by just an end table or a coffee table cheapens the perceived value. Couches are for the den, sofas cost more and are for the living rooms and bedrooms. A divan is a couch for the summer room or screened porches. I have yet to figure out how a davenport works into the picture because a davenport is a type of writing/study desk. Maybe it's a regional thing, but I do digress. Point is, certain pieces of furniture get a bigger price tag if you label them to fit the price that you are asking.

Part of owning a booth and cameras really don’t help. Even if you catch someone, finding the person after the fact is nearly impossible. Thieves and vandals figure out where cameras are and know how to skirt or just do it right in front. On stolen stuff, I have had to file a police report on more expensive items. After 38 years I have learned to just take it and not get upset. People keep shop owner/worker busy as someone else they are with might steal or take a portion of something and leave rest.

It's a shame that those items were damaged, not only for your lost value, but some seemed irreplaceable. I really like your booth, the rug is so fun! You won some great things at the auction too!

I like the new short intro a lot! Sorry about your booth. People in general are good BUT there are tons of bad apples in the bunch! Mom's shop had some takers and to thank us for use of the "facilities", they stuffed ALL of the tp in the toilet! My booth elsewhere later had some takers, movers, tag swappers -- I find it best to just sell online for higher sale prices and more control. I had other booth renters helping themselves to my items and sales!!

Yes. Yes. Yes, that Camel Taxi IS just about one of the weirdest art creations I've ever seen. Thank you for that---my Sunday has been pretty dull up to now.

Sorry Andrew as a collector and a historian I know it's very upsetting for you. I hope you all have cameras around the booths and if not maybe it's a good idea. So sorry for your losses people don't understand that the items you find often are irreplaceable and possibly the last of their kind. They are just not antiques they are history. Which makes them priceless. Pam
