We took our cruise on the Edge in May '23. I also noticed fewer kids on the ship and the older demographic. By chance, I met a Celebrity employee who worked in the Kids Club. She said time of year and length of cruise really affects the ship's demographic. Our trip was before Memorial Day in the US so most schools are still in session and many families are not traveling yet. She explained that our cruise had 50 guests under age 18 but the same cruise in June will have 300 and one in July will have 700. She also noticed longer cruises have an older demographic, ours was 12 days. Vacationing families often take 7 day or less cruises due to cost and time available. Thought I'd share her comments. Love your reviews!

The crew is reflective of the captain and Captain Kate is the best. We have sailed with her and she walks the walk. I believe 3 years ago Captain Kate was to disembark for her vacation right after the International Women’s Day cruise. Someone asked a crew member who was cleaning the doors of the theatre if she was going to miss her. The crew member had actual tears in her eyes and said yes, she talks to us and treats us like family but we know she is coming back.

Totally agree! Though we tend to cruise on the smaller lines with smaller ships, it’s great to hear that a larger ship has the same great quality of service. Sometimes those “entitled” people just take crew members for granted, other than the bar tenders. 😉. Also, just back from an Oceania cruise, 1,070 passengers, and we noticed maybe 20 gay or lesbian couples. None of the much older white passengers seemed to be treating them any differently or worse than anyone else. I kept looking for a couple as adorable as you guys…. but nope! 😁

They are spot on about a small group of people who are snobby. In my opinion, this small of amount of people need to "try" to make others feel small in order to deal with their insecurities. But it is kind of unfair to include that in their "brutal review" of Celebrity. This is not a Celebrity thing; it's a society thing. There are people like that EVERYWHERE. I’m truly disappointed at your rating of Beyond as 8 out of 10. It doesn’t make sense when your ratings of food, shows, service, art, etc, was mostly 9s and 10s. How do you average that to 8? As far as I can tell, you took points off for some fellow passengers being rude. How does that have anything to do with Celebrity or Beyond? If I took off points on my ship reviews for rude fellow passengers, I’d have always had a “bad experience”. I’m usually in complete agreement with you guys, but you dropped the ball on this one.

Ben and David- Thank you so much for your great reviews and finally giving us a review of a Celebrity ship. My husband and I have been dedicated Celebrity cruisers and by far and beyond have found the cruise line to be the most friendly to us as a gay couple. It may have just been the particular cruise you were on, but we always find that our community is well represented in the guests that are on board. Of course we always encounter the occasional idiots who are entitled are for some reason think they are better…we just ignore and don’t engage and move on as we don’t want anyone raining on our holiday. In comparison to almost every other cruise line, I have to say that I am grateful for celebrity’s marketing materials. We actual feel seen. And well of course I can’t say enough great things about Captain Kate, but also a company who lifts up women and seems to be making a real effort when it comes to equity compared to other lines. Glad to hear you will be cruising Celebrity again from one gay couple to another. Cheers! Kyle and Steven

So much of what you saw is spot on with our experiences, so good to know that the Mega ships still provide that level of goodness at that number of guests. Our most extraordinary crew interaction was on Celebrity. We had taken a Med cruise (amazing) on Celebrity, three years later on a Caribbean cruise one night walking forward for the show, a cabin steward stopped what he was doing, greeted us BY NAME, and recalled his being our stew on that Med cruise. Incomparable. We choose Celebrity any time we can. Never disappointed.

Hi Guys - regarding that gorgeous view - sometime you need to book a Panoramic Oceanview Stateroom on Royal Caribbean’s Liberty class of ships (Liberty, Independence, Freedom). They’re only on the very front of the ship. There is no balcony, but the entire outside wall is floor to ceiling glass and you can see what the bridge sees for where the ship is going. I did it once and it was awesome, and the glass outside wall felt wider (maybe because it was the front angled part of the ship). 😎👍

In the last 9 months, we have cruised on the Celebrity Millennium, Holland America Konigsdam, RCCL Liberty of the Seas and the NCL Epic. I found Celebrity to have a level of service that I have never experienced on a cruise ship. From the time that you step on the ship until you leave, you are made to feel welcome. Also, unlike the other cruise ships, it felt like they were fully staffed. What we liked is the ability to share tables with other couples. The eight of us who met on the first night ended up sitting together the entire cruise. We never did any specialty dining as teh included food was great. I will admit that it is an older crowd - there were 21 people under 21 out of 2100 people. which was alright with us. We did not really encounter a lot of snobbiness at all but in all fairness, we were on the oldest ship in the Celebrity line. The food and service was excellent. The entertainment was enjoyable. However, on our ship, the sound and lighting were really out of date. It is far below what we encountered at HAL. Your title IMPLIES that you had a lousy time on the cruise.

@@benjaminsmith2287 The thing that we noticed on the millennium was that the officers were always in the middle of the action so that if there were issues, they could respond immediately. For example, on the last night, they scheduled a comic in the top lounge for the late show. That venue pas packed 25 minutes before the show. the entertainment director immediately moved it to the main theatre and started it 25 minutes late to allow everyone to get down there. The management is always out front and accessible to guests.

Hello Ben and David - so glad you had the chance to experience Celebrity!!! We have found it to be a step up from any other cruise line. We too are high level RCL but have felt many things have been slowly slipping the past 10 years ( good, service, crew) Celebrity has reinvigorated our desire to cruise again. As for those RUDE people - SHAME. They are just stupid and are wasting air. I hope you can just ignore that type of slick vomit of a people. The class system is gone people! Get over it or buy your own ship to sail on. There were many openly gay couples on my last sailing on Apex so I did not have same experience as you. There are always entitled people, who really seem to live in Lala land. They are just people with no manners and are best ignored. Best ignored or tell them off. I was on a cruise out of Haifa last year and people were pushing their way onto the elevators without having the manners or good common sense to wait for people to get off. In my best (fluent as I live in Israel) Hebrew. I put my arms out, stopping every one of them from getting on and shouted Stop! Wait! You aren;t in Tel Aviv now. Etiquette disctates you let people off before you try to barge in. Show your best manners please!" So they stopped, they listened and after that I think they behaved. Sometimes its lack of manners, sometimes lack of brains, sometimes culture.

I experienced something similar in Warsaw while visiting with my parents. Teenagers on a school trip from Israel pushed past my elderly mom and others who were patiently waiting for an elevator. After having to wait for another elevator we almost got trampled by yet another group of students attempting to push past to board. I finally stopped them and told them I knew they were in Poland to visit Holocaust sites. I made them aware that they were pushing past a woman who survived the Holocaust. That she didn’t deserve their disrespect not only because of her age but because of what she had endured when she was their age. You would have thought they would have offered some type of apology but instead just carried onto the elevator after us. If they only knew better.

So since you have no idea about Israeli culture your comment is without merit. Come to Israel, you won't believe it until you see it for yourself. Elevators, trains, buses, shops. It's all the same, happens all the time. But it leaves a very bad opinion of Israelis.

My sister and brother in law cruise Celebrity exclusively. Only the most exclusive suites for them. They do act entitled and better than anyone else. Just who they are. My husband and I sail with Carnival for the most part. They wouldn't be caught dead saying the word Carnival. But we have far more limited funds than they do. I have seen half the world cruising modestly. I'd love the special suite, but if its a choice between cruising 10 times per year to once every 3 years, I'll take the former.

Celebrity cruises is our favourite cruise line, we feel that it's the best food we've had on any cruise line and we're huge foodies! However, I do agree with your negative points, even though most people are lovely we've had a couple of negative encounters and rude comments directly made towards us from some of the guests onboard (I think the lack of diversity didn't help). We're trying out the Sky Princess in June after your glowing review in a previous video! Another wonderful video, thought it was about time I commented after being a silent watcher for such a long time 😃Also I thought the balcony was a brilliant idea at first, but not as keen on the idea now that I know the cabin gets hot, would be great on a cold destination though!

Really fantastic review... and useful as well, especially with regard to the infinite balconies. I suppose I should have realized that having the "window" open would mean the AC shut off, given that on most ships, when you open the sliding door to the balcony, the same thing happens. Yet I didn't realize that, so it's good to know. I'm doing my first Celebrity ship in June (Summit) and, as an added treat for myself, staying in the Retreat. Looking forward to comparing the experience to Carnival, NCL and Royal. Good job, guys!

I loved this video mostly because I love to sail on Celebrity cruises. All the ships have their own “personality”. Even though some of them are very old and some are shiny and new, one thing onCelebrity stays the same : The food is excellent. The staff is superb. The overall customer service is amazing. Every inch of the ship is spotless.

So disappointing to hear that some bozos made you feel unvalued. But wow: a female captain! That's interesting!

You are quite correct. There is a feeling of stuffiness on this cruise line even before you step on board with comments from people bragging about going Aqua Class and looking down on people who don’t! We are in the age bracket of most cruisers on the ship as you explained, but it would be the absolute best time if my husband and I had the opportunity to meet such great guys as you two!!!!

Never had that problem or issue with Celebrity. We normally book a veranda stateroom. I’m not sure I would book an infinity veranda or balcony as it definitely had the indoor vibe to it from the looks of things. We use our veranda pretty much daily. Personally, I tend to be claustrophobic hence the veranda and not interior cabin which we did have on our very first cruise (not Celebrity).

Only 12 kids on the cruise is a blessing. As for diversity, what are you expecting? Why does your sexuality need to be a focal point? I just don't get it.

Thanks for another great video! Glad you enjoyed your first experience on Celebrity! I was surprised to hear ye felt that Celebrity wasn’t as inclusive as other cruise lines? As I saw and experienced the complete opposite last June when we were on Beyond on a Med Cruise! They had a big Pride Celebration onboard! Ending with the largest Pride Party at Sea in the Rooftop Garden and it was absolutely fantastic! And a lovely speech from Capt Kate of how lucky and proud she is to have members of the LGBTQ+ community as part of the Beyond/Celebrity family! Was really lovely! There were also more families and a younger crowd onboard then too! Maybe it unfortunately happened to be the sailing ye were on?Defo don’t let it put you off giving Celebrity another chance! Maybe try a Med Summer cruise next time

Laughed my butt off when you said "it's reached the middle of my body, all the guys know what I mean". This was something that NEVER occurred to me until I went travelling with my husband and every time we hopped in the water at any beach he was like "Wait wait wait I have to get used to it oooh oooh oooh!"

How is Celebrity for single straight males? Any single scene? Do they try to group them at the same dining table? Are there excursions for singles only?

As always, so appreciate your highly entertaining, honest reviews. I was on one of the first Beyond sailings from North America in November and found it a wonderful ship. The celebrity food and spectacular crew make it my fave! Think you'd love the vibe and offerings on some of the older Celebrity ships too... might be less stuffy.

I'm happy you all overall enjoyed Celebrity! We love their ships and the entertainment. We were very fortunate to go on three Celebrity cruises last year, all on different classes of ships. The buffet is outstanding and we could probably have happily eaten there most meals, but the main dining room was disappointing, and the menus were virtually the same on all three ships. We also didn't appreciate seeing the menus for the Blu and Luminae menus on the app even though we didn't have access to those restaurants, as the food seemed so much more appealing. The quality of the food at times (particularly temperature) made us wonder if Blu, Luminae and main dining were all being prepared in the same galley and the main dining room was being shortchanged.

Infinite balconies stink. Cruise lines are going to them because it decreases drag and improves “gas mileage”

Your insight to that infinite room was what I was most looking forward to as soon as I knew you were on this ship. Really good point re: the cabin instantly warming up then taking a long time to cool down - I forgot about the humidity experienced in the Caribbean!

With the exception of Virgin Voyages, Carnival and RC you are going to get an older crowd. Younger people just don’t have as much disposable income or the desire to cruise en masse as older people do. As far as diversity goes, there in NO excuse for snobbery, or anyone giving you a bad vibe. There is no excuse for any of that! Now this is going to sound maybe unlike what I just said, but We are not concerned with massive diversity or no diversity whatsoever because my take is We dont see race or identity, if you are nice to us we are nice to you.

There are bathrooms there and usually the ice cream van , not far from town , walking back towards the port check out Sunset bar , great food and the prices aren't bad , Come back soon, you are always welcome xxx

Disney Magic was also our first cruise!! We were on her during her inaugural year in 1998. We also love Celebrity, but agree that infinite veranda is probably not the best in the Caribbean. We did the Norwegian Fjords on the Apex and infinite veranda was pretty good for that. We prefer a traditional balcony for Caribbean.

Being confronted with ignorant, rude and/or snobby people is never pleasant no matter whether you are LGBTQI or straight. That said, the cruise line cannot be blamed for the makeup of the passengers. Celebrity was one of the first, if not the first, cruise line to make it very clear it was LGBTQI-friendly. My husband and I have been fortunate to have travelled on a number of Celebrity cruises over the last twenty-five years lasting 7 to 30 days in length and on numerous itineraries. Throughout, the staff, crew and officers have been absolutely outstanding, courteous, thoughtful and kind. The passengers have, with very few exceptions, and I do mean very few, been refined, pleasant and offered no discourteous attitudes to us or anyone else. Ultimately, with the apparent advent of people seeming to feel they have the right to do and say anything at any time to anyone, it's a miracle David and Ben experienced as few miscreants as they did. Unless someone becomes physical, the best philosophy is to simply rise above them. If that does not work, say nothing and go directly to the Passengers Service and ask them to handle the situation. If you will pardon the saying, 'Never get into a pissing match with a skunk.'

When we first started cruising, we were surrounded by loads of pushy people from a certain region of the country acting rudely, yelling and cutting people off while getting an elevator, a seat in the showroom, at the buffet. On the third day, it always settled down, like there was a collective sigh from the crowd that they didn’t have to scratch and tear to get what they wanted like they were accustomed to in the densely populated region that they came from.

Just got back yesterday from a week on the Apex. Had an inside cabin but absolutely LOVED the ship and cruise. Can't wait to try the Beyond. As far as the small element of people you noticed that are snobby, we've noticed that on every Celebrity cruise we've taken. The brand seems to attract "entitled" people. You just have to ignore them. Also there were tons and tons of gay couples on out particular sailing. I'm not aware whether or not it was an organized event but I felt it was pretty inclusive compared to your experience.

Sorry you were treated that way. We just got off Princess and it was the STAFF who treated us differently, in particular, the Indian staff. They smiled and chatted up white customers, but would just say LITERALLY "what do you want" to me and my husband. I noticed it the first time from a Russian server in the dining room, but we decided to cruise with them a couple times on other ships. But, Caribbean Princess has that problem. The Regal and Royal were fine, so maybe it's just that ship. I hate the discrimination. We're avid cruisers. We just want to have az good time and be treated like every one else, nothing more nothing less. Just be glad it wasn't the STAFF :(

Great review. My wife and I were on the Edge and we are in our late 50’s. We were among the young ones. Yes, we found the some of the passengers rather unfriendly too. Same thing, people cutting us off and butting in line. We met a gay couple at the martini bar and we had a great time. There were other gay couples and they seemed to be having a good time. Yes, they were older than us too. 😊. We had a great time.

We cruised on the Celebrity Beyond in its inaugural cruise from Southampton in May 2022 and there was a high percentage of guests from the LGBT + community. We do not think that any person on the ship was treated differently and would have felt excluded. Hopefully your experience was a one off as Celebrity cruises are the top cruise line for inclusivity and that has always been our experience. We also were very impressed with Eden and the entertainment in the Club!!!

Please don't make one experience determine whether a cruise line welcomes diversity. We have found that it is simply SOME people who always judge others or embrace their entitlement. Celebrity is very inclusive. The crew and entertainers cover many races, cultures and lifestyles. We have found so many passengers who are different from us, who teach us so much and who regale us with stories of their lives and careers. Ignore the "snobs" and find the people who will welcome you. Happy cruising whichever ship you choose!
