JustAnswer Customer: Our DESA Speciality Products doorbell no longer works.
JustAnswer Customer: It may be the transformer.
JustAnswer Customer: Is the transformer the same as the regular door bell.
JustAnswer Customer: (We have a conventional door bell which did not ring loud enough, so a handyman added the Desa product.) Where is the transformer?
JustAnswer Customer: Thank you.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: Hello, My name is XXXXX XXXXX I will try and answer your question today.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: I am guessing that the Desa uses a standard transformer if it is connected with low voltage bell wire.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: Of you have a volt meter, you can check to see if the transformer is working or not.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: It could be the button at the door also.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: When you press the button it completes the circuit and should send 12 volts to the bell.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: So you could have someone press the button and then check the voltage at the bell to see if you have 12 volts.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: If not, it is could be the button or the transformer.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: If you want to check the button, just remove the wires from the back of the button and touch them together and see if the bell rings then.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: If not then it is more than likely the transformer.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: The transformer is usually mounted in a remote area maybe in a attic or closet.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: It hard so say exactly where it is.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: It has to have 120volts running to it and then it converts the 120 to 12 volts.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: Low voltage bell wire then runs from the transformer to the button then to the bell.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: Lastly it could be a broken wire issue too.
mhburris4040: Home Improvement Enthusiast: You just need to do a little testing and try and trace down the problem.
