100% you both just said out loud exactly what I, and probably a million other people are feeling, but haven’t mustered the courage to take the leap. I will be following you on this amazing journey, for inspiration of my own. I honor your courage. Enjoy your liberation from the common worldly tethers!

My wife and I are at the same point as you in our thinking. In fact, I came across you channel because we did the TMB in July 2022. We're planning to hike the Yorkshire Dales later this year. Also on our short list is the Lauterbrunnen Valley in Switzerland and the Dolomites in northern Italy. Curious if 'slow traveling' is part of your plans as that is something we are seriously considering.

I hadn't heard of the Yorkshire Dales- adding that to the research list! Dolomites is definitely on there. I also hadn't heard the term 'slow travel' before - but yes! That's exactly what we want to do and sort of what we've been doing. We do try to hit the tourist highlights too - but we usually do it in a weird way. Like, we went to the Great Wall of China - but at a crazy farm in a location way way out of the way that no tourist goes to. It was so weird - and so fantastic. Heck yeah!

I admire you for starting this planning earlier than most of us do... Looking forward to watching this process. (68 trips around the sun, retired 3 years)

How do you like retirement so far? I wish we could retire now... or - not retire exactly... But being able to stop having to care if the work we like doing makes money or not would be awesome!

@@OurExitStrategy - I love retirement! My work was pretty high stress in many ways and I haven’t missed it at all. Most of the work we do has some value to someone…. The question is always “how much?” I get the feeling that you both have a pretty good grasp of your market value. The hard part for me ( and maybe you) is figuring out what kind of LONG TERM SUSTAINED lifestyle you can afford and how things can change as age takes its toll…

The worst is when the parts that peev are also the parts that bring in good cash. Ugh!

When did this inclination to escape fully hit you? I'm 44, and a similar notion has been clawing at me for almost 2 years now. It's a heavy thing to think about, daunting, but also incredibly exciting and energizing. I'm looking forward to seeing where you two take this.

I think it started creeping in at about your age probably. It's so easy to talk about but freaking scary to actually implement!
