Thanks for the video! might be a silly question but ( I'm not familiar with the solaredge systems) is the battery connected directly to the inverter as i can't see the cables connecting in? I can only see the two strings, ac, and comms, or is the battery ac coupled and connected separately on its own circuit that communicates with the inverter?
@OvalRenewables

Thank you for commenting! The SolarEdge batteries are a high voltage battery and so just connect into the inverter using normal 6mm Pv cable and MC4’s. On this system there is one string of panels and one pair of connectors going to the battery. That’s why you can see two sets of cables.

I have a similar system and have experienced the problems you mention with the Energy Bank. A few days ago the battery, according to the app, was not charging or discharging, it is working now. There's a software update due soon apparently. Considering how long the Energy Bank has been available in the U.S.A they should have resolved most problems by now. To be fair SE support are quick to respond to any support cases, in my experience within 48 hours.

How are you dealing with the lack of battery control in the customer side app ? By this i mean the fact there is no ability to change what the battery does.. i just had one installed and its sat there at 31% doing nothing at all.. its one of the more frustracting bits of soleredge and the fact it has no UPS or backup function for a power outage. over all im regreting the solaredge battery part atleast lol i will have to re-evaluate once i get some answers from soleredge on monday.

Hi, my local Pembrokeshire SOLAR installers put a 7.3Kw system on my roof last November 2021 but still haven't installed the Tesla 10Kw BATTERY due to supply problems. Would you consider installing one of your SolarEdge 10 Kw batteries booked up to my SolarEdge inverter, and this would then stay in situ until the Tesla BATTERY becomes available to fit as.an extra battery.? Would love to put my email or phone details here but then I'd get too much spam so hope to get a reply as I can rarely find my way back to this video.Today I gave British Gas only 3Kw for free but daily power given away is around 30-45 Ish hence my request for a battery as I urgently require some storage. Many thanks for suggestions.

Would that be 3kW or 3kWh you have given British Gas? Have you ever read an electricity meter? Have you never noticed that the readings are always in kWh and kWh is stamped on the meter next to the reading? Is it that you don't understand kWh and you do understand kW, so you just omit the h because you don't understand it, you think that the kWh units must be wrong? - even though it states kWh on every mains electricity meter in the entire country?

Does the App require SolarEdge to provide the service. What happens if SolarEdge goes Belly up - as Anderson has recently. If the App relies on SolarEdge to provide the App "Service" - then the whole App is going to disappear. Solar Edge surely can't be the only ones to offer/allow an Optimiser per panel to be installed in the System setup.

I got my energy bank commissioned a few days ago. I made a 3 part review on this battery on my KZitem channel. A few days on, one thing I’ve noticed is that there’s often 20 to 30 watts of grid import all the time when in max self consumption mode. It adds up to 1kwh import per day. It makes me think that they are measuring “apparent” power rather than “real” power from the battery. The grid import is most obvious at night when the fridge freezer compressor kicks in every two hours or so. Hopefully a software update will fix it, but it’s great to otherwise see my import get reduced massively now that the nights are drawing in. I really do hope that Solaredge get charge discharge profiling into the hand of owners soon. It’s completely unacceptable that only installers have the ability to set these up.

Hi Anthony, thanks for watching and for the comment. Most battery systems will allow a small amount of import from the grid during operation. SolarEdge have a big app /software update in November I believe which will hopefully sort some of these issues out. I know they are including customer control for the grid charge. It is strange this was not included when it was released but hopefully all that will be a distant memory soon!

Loving your videos and it is helping me as I am seriously considering solar panels and battery storage, as we recently moved into a property that is quite a period property in Brotherton, built in 1790. It was nice seeing this video with an older property, but I still think this one would be a walk in the park compared to mine. It is scaring me the prospect. Old fuse box, with old meter both of which are relatively inaccessible due to a kitchen being built on top of them. Walls nearly a meter thick. Also I would need an external setup (battery etc) as although my property is huge with a massive roof (my electrician buddy thinks that if weight and other things was not an issue, I have enough room for 40+ solar panels) that has just enough pitch so it is not declared flat (so uninterrupted sun all day), I do not have a garage. I need to get a survey done to see what is possible as my elec bills are huge, and I do not even charge my car at the house, my Tesla has free supercharging so I use Ferrybridge for that but would love to charge it at home and not supercharge it all the time.

Hi guys, love the videos, especially the joint ones with Artisan. You are clear, knowledgeable and above all - honest. I have one comment to make on your videos generally, I hope it is received as constructive rather than too critical. When you play music, please resist the temptation to raise the volume. Yes, it is sexy to crank up the tunes, but it is really annoying to at least some of us viewers. Being over 50 means your audio acuity is reduced and to have sufficient volume to clearly hear the spoken parts means the volume is then uncomfortably loud when the music comes in. We then spend the video adjusting the volume up and down! I view on a PC with a seperate HiFi amplifier and wall speakers, so this isn't an issue of my audio system This is just a fine point to an otherwise well polished production and something that is all to common on KZitem, but very very rare on TV or professional streaming.

I was really hoping to hear about the configuration for overnight/off peak charging of the battery from the grid. Does it do that? If it does, does it look at a weather forecast to see if it's going to be a sunny day before anticipating how much to charge. Fun to start with but I don't want to have to be interacting with the system every day to tell it how deeply to charge the batteries. That's the key feature I'm looking for in my next battery system. (I have a SolaX that doesn't do this and it is a pain)
@daveforrester61
2 жыл бұрын
This battery can be charged from the grid overnight, but you need installer level access to that functionality on the monitoring platform. There is an update to the app coming in January next year which will give site owners access to charging profiles. Current level access is not smart enough to factor in the weather forecast for the next day. Perhaps the update will include that.
