Just found your channel. You two are so lovely. Keep it up guys! One reason why the doors opens outwards in Sweden is because it's easier to open it if there's a fire. Instead of opening in towards you. Also. Opening it outwards takes less space in the apartment. / A Swede

@@stufr.travel, and in Swedish police movies, you will rarely see scenes where a police officer kicks in the door. It is rumoured that in the British version of Wallander, that they wanted a scene with a police kicking in a door. A local scene technician had to explain that it would not be possible to kick in the door in that scene. The door frame would stand the kicking force in that scene. On the other hand, if you open your door and the person on the outside trying to get in, you will probably have it harder to close the door again. A door safety chain lock is recommended to prevent that, as a precaution.

The birds sings in the mating season. Springtime they are very loud, starts in the end of march, depends on if you are in the south or north of Sweden. In old houses the frontdoor used to go inwards, nowadays it’s theother way around because of the space you save and also for safety. It is way harder to forse a door that opens against you.

Doors open outward in case of emergency, people tend to push, not pull when panicking. Another safety policy is that hot water in a tap is always on the left side. They are usually colour marked but even people with vision impairment can work it out.

@@stufr.travel The thing with the dorrs goes deeper than Harris explanation. What Harri stated is true but there is actually a rule (at least in public places) that the way doors open should point you towards the exit. That way if you can see, smoke or darkness, you should know which way to go to exit a building by way of wich way the door opens. So it is a safety thing.

7:32 What is known historically is fire safety. Sweden is for the most part an Arctic country and historically the houses have been heated with wood. Often many got tar in the chimney and the house started to burn. For hundreds of years, the doors have been opened to make it easy to get out in the event of a fire. The same applies in Norway and Finland. Maybe Russia? In the rest of the world, no one needed to think about it. Scandinavia sometimes had very cold winters and a lot of forest. In the summer, they used the wood stove to heat food so even in the summer the door was a security. A plus is that a door that goes outside takes up little space indoors.

Thanks for your nice video about my country! You alredy got some good comments, but its like always more to it. Lets start whit doors, its as sayd alredy, in an emegency situation, doors should open outdors, but that is kind of new legislations/building requirment for public buildings. The other thing is that we have climate that provide a lot of snow and rain.. the water travel down your door let it slip out, not in. Soo it was standard befor the emergency rules. Then to red paint, its origin is frome Falu copper mine, but there is altso more to that! At first people didnt paint there houses, they build it by logs, that last at least 100 years. Then we got a nobility some out in the countryside, they painted there house red, kind of show of and to resemble the House of knights house that was in red bricks.. it become a social marker. More to that, the priest house was often painted yellow, another social marker. After breaking down a lot of social rules/ going more to democracy, the paint frome Falu copper mine have some wood protecting benefits, that people starting to use.. and it looks nice to.

Swedish doors open out because its safer for the people living inside (fire hazards etc) Its the same in public buildings, doors always opens towards the staircases. In many countries (like the US) doors opens inwards to make it easier to break down from the outside (for the police etc). It really tells you a lot about different countries when you study little details like these.

Doors open to the outside, you have to do it that way couse of fire-regulations, at least on public houses ans more than one household-houses, but i think its probably a standard for all houses The red houses are painted with sludge color based on waste from the Falu copper mine that started as early as in the 800:eds and the cost for makin the paint was very low and it could be made everywere it was perfect, all you need is water, rye flour, linseed oil, and powder with waste from the mine. You can also see this kind of red buildings in for example the US but they are made with iron, not copper but looks more or less the same. Now there are modern paint that looks like Falu Red but its not the same

Stockholm has 2,4 million people with a higher density than Amsterdam. We’d be exhausted, never get home, not get anything done if we’d chit chat with everybody all the time. It’s not a Swedish, it’s a big city thing and a way to cope with noise, public transport, crowding and remaining civil. It takes 1 hour to get around in Stockholm. One way. Or longer. You look like you’ve mostly been to the rural countryside and Malmö and Göteborg, they’re tiny compared to Stockholm. 88% of Swedes live in cities however. I’m a bit fed up with this “Swedes are reserved thing”, not true. Language. I never switch to English unless it’s clearly a tourist that’s only visiting. Why would I? 🥴 Prices. I’m often shocked at the prices abroad. Bottles of alcohol in pricy restaurants is the expensive thing in Stockholm but Stockholm is on a very moderate price index these days. Like 50 out of 100 where Copenhagen is at 100. Systembolaget is a matter of opinion but because they are one of the largest buyers of alcohol in the world, they negotiate amazing prices so we have incredible quality at prices not seen abroad. Food is amazing here, agree boys. An other observation. Swedes are eye candy. Even the slobs look good 😂
