I like how access to the gearbox is still relatively simple

I still was hoping for a secret trick to get to it even faster. But it seems there is no way around taking off the rear part of the cage. ;-)

Enjoyed the video. Definitely will pick up the slipper kit for my BBX. Seems to me that should have been part of the kit. If I'm not mistaken a slipper is included with the Super Astute. To piggy back off the last comment regarding the Makita Gun...Did you pick up a driver bit set from Makita as well?? Thanks again.
@Competitionx

Well, the BBX works well without the slipper if you're using a low-power motor. If you're going to drop in a bit more power, you'll definitely want the slipper to both help protect the drivetrain and monitor the power delivery. And yes, we picked up a driver bit set from MIP! :)

Ya, pretty easy. Makes a big difference with more motor! Time to put a 10.5T in yours :)

That top bushing on the spring looks so wrong to me in the instructions. I have installed it same as the bottom (reverse from the instructions) . It holds spring nicely, fits right in into the gearbox opening and does not touch the bearing whilst pressing against shaft nicely. It makes more sense to me that way. Runs ok and looks much cleaner. Also, you don't need to unsolder engine - you can remove it and leave it handing on wires. Less work Great video, thanks for your help

Ya, the placement of those parts is a bit wonky - we thought so as well but kept it as it per the instructions, you know, just in case it is SUPPOSED to go that way :) You are correct, we didn't need to unsolder the motor but for the sake of the video, it made it easier. Glad it helped! :)

I went to run mine for the first time today, and it wouldn't move, it was spinning. So I cranked it down a bit, and it still slipped. Went to try some more, noticing that it was just about bottomed out, and SNAP! The shaft broke. What the heck?

What were you tightening down on - the diff or did you have a slipper installed. If you were tightening down on the slipper, it sounds like your diff might have been loose. If it was the diff you were tightening, sounds like it was built incorrectly.

Just to confirm, the slipper clutch assembly pack comes with the exact same spur gear as stock, correct? I'd like to buy a spare spur gear or maybe a spare set of pads but not the whole assembly if possible.

Have run it twice now - once at the beach, once at a track. Both times the slipper made a huge difference in the performance, especially with a hot motor (was running a 13.5T). Definitely a first upgrade to look at.

I’m confused. Is this upgrade more of a performance enhancement or a preventative factor? Hate having to go through all that work, esp soldering
@Competitionx
Жыл бұрын
If you're going to keep the motor tame (ie, something like a 17.5T), it's not really needed. However, if you're going to drop some big motor in it (say, a 13.5T or hotter), then you'll want to have it for 2 reasons: help protect the drivetrain and help manage power to the ground. Hot motors WITHOUT the slipper are just going to create a ton of wheelspin unless, of course, you're really good at managing your throttle finger.
@alexsoul247
Жыл бұрын
A tone of wheel speed is exactly what makes it so much fun. I have installed it on 13.5T anyway and tightened a bit harder. It is still a good upgrade, not as much on the performance side, but rather on longevity and care for your gearbox

I’m wondering if going with a TA06 gear differential is a better option than a slipper. That way you get rid of the ball differential
@Competitionx
Жыл бұрын
We actually loved the way the ball diff made the car feel (not necessarily in the sand though), but thought the slipper might help with the increased power we want to put in it. Plus, we didn't want to have to remove the gear diff constantly to adjust the fluid for different surfaces. Not sure how much that would of happened but, well, sometimes we're lazy like that LOL
@jonthomas8487

@@Competitionx what I’m seeing is that so far in other reviews the ball diffs are having to be removed and tightened quite a bit just after a few runs. I guess I’ll build one and see.

Hmmm, ya, we've beat on ours pretty good and not had that issue. Yet. LOL Maybe the slipper is helping with that?

Slipper nut is very close to the motor tabs, better be careful not to short out the motor phases
@Competitionx

Ya, thought the same thing but since the top shaft and the motor shouldn't move, it should be ok. If either DOES move, we've got bigger problems than a short on the motor LOL

I'm confused, it's 2wd and has a differential, what's the point of this?
@Competitionx
Жыл бұрын
It helps provide traction to the rear of the car under acceleration. Almost all 2WD cars and trucks (both onroad and offroad), have a differential, the only exception being drift cars or crawlers.
@cfusername
10 ай бұрын
What you think about, is probably a center differential between rear and front axles. And you're right, it makes no sense for a 2WD. But the video mentions the differential between the rear driving wheels which almost all RC cars have. Usually, if someone is talking about a diff, (s)he means the on between the wheels, because it's much more common.
