Our forests are under threat. In the last four years, wildfires have burned over 30 million acres and destroyed more than 40,000 structures and 28,000 homes. Twenty-five percent of trees in the U.S. will be killed by pests or disease by 2027. And development and shifting land uses are fragmenting forested land and changing our ecosystems forever.
There over 800 million acres of forests in the U.S. Organizing to protect them is a massive undertaking. That’s where state forestry agencies and their Forest Action Plans come in. Every state and U.S. territory has a Forest Action Plan. Each of these plans are unique, because after all, diverse landscapes, climates, and cultures require diverse management strategies.
Forest Action Plans help coordinate local conservation efforts to meet national goals for healthy and productive forests. Visit www.stateforesters.org to support your state’s Forest Action Plan.
