When I was a child I remember everyone had at least one fruit tree in their backyard. I'm talking living in a small town in a city lot. Everyone shared with neighbors so everyone got apples, pears, whatever! A good variety for everyone. Then the fad was to cut them down because they were messy and attracted bees and wildlife. What have we done? Everyone had a very small garden also with at least a couple of tomato plants and peppers and maybe zucchini or cukes. Now you hardly ever see that in the city. I'm the only one in my Street that has a small garden. It's in half of my front yard as that's the only place that has sunshine! I don't care that my lawn isn't perfectly manicured. I love the look of my little garden and everyone compliments us. I always share our bounty with our neighbors. That's part of why I plant it. To share it. I can't get enough out of it to can up, I utilize local farms for that.

I love the banana trees. I have never seen peaches get that red before. I had a ton of plums on my trees, I was so excited, I came out one day and every single one was gone. I just keep planting fruit trees and shrubs, I figure if anything, I will harvest at least something from one of them. You grow so many things, it's a paradise. I have noticed that there's more fruit on everything, even fruit on trees I never knew made fruit. A lot of things making fruit for the first time this year too. It's very wonderful, and odd. I have a feeling everyone should harvest as much as possible.. I think a famine is coming and the lord is trying to tell everyone.

Then one year all five trees bore an abundance of weird (to us) looking fruit that turned out to be almonds. 😃

Every year when the brunt of our peach trees are ripe to pick i see a steady stream of squirrels parading across my yard, climbing tree to grab a peach and making their exit. Can't sit on the buttocks if you want to put up peaches in any any form. Have to get out there before the squirrel parade and pick the primes then get to work. You'll thank yourself on a cold winter morning when enjoying a fresh warm biscuit with cow butter and some of the preserves, jams & jellies those peaches will become!! It's an investment...a worthwhile one too.

We are the same. Wildlife gets every piece of fruit we have. Pecans too. Plums, peaches, blackberries, grapes, and pears. All the trees are stripped. I have fenced my vegetables in to keep them out. I saw a hawk sitting on my back deck rail yesterday. I hope he gets very squirrel around here. I let him be. I saw another viewer say tulle around the base. I will definitely try that next year.
@Emeraldwitch30

The motion activated sprinkler(if your water conditions allow) works good on squirrels. But if you pay for water that might be expensive. I'd say electric fencing too but geez thats expensive. I dont have squirrels/chipmunks that bother my veg but geez rabbits and deer were destroying what they didn't eat. I have chicken fence to 3 feet and 7 foot posts. I wind fishing line along the upper 4 feet of the posts. The deer can't see well so touching the line startles them. I also have those tiny dollar store wind chimes. My grand children buy them for me so I put them along the fishing lines so it adds noise to the line and I've caught them on camera jumping away from the fence. So far the bun-buns haven't figured it out yet(cross fingers here lol ). I also have a small chicken yard I close off that has those 2by4 welded wire fencing and its 6foot tall so I get some crops in there too. We are planning on one more garden area as we have a pile of wood from the storms a few years ago that we might torch and use the area for my smaller greenhouse and an extended garden bed out side it. But it might have to be totally fence free as im out of cash for this year of extras lol

Wrapping some tulle around the tree trunk will keep off any ground animals with tiny fingernails. They touch the tulle and their little fingernails get stuck and they think its a trap and avoid it. You can also wrap a swath of a tree in tulle or wrap the individual fruits. Sometimes deer will avoid tulle if there are other things available.

My neighbor has an English walnut tree(I have 2 smaller ones from this tree its a hearty English walnut) we do get frost/freeze problems with getting nuts but when they do fruit for us the chipmunks on my trees and squirrels on his leave us hardly any. But Bt seemed to take care of the web worms and gypsy moths. I have all kinds of tulle that I've used in the garden I might use it on the trees. One of mine is tiny so won't work as the limbs are close to the ground. But it should work on my neighbors tree and they share with me so I could easily wrap that tree for them.
