hello my Korean friend , this is very similar to India, competitive exams, always looking to study with scholarship, failing is not accepted. and even Hindi and Korean language is very similar interms of how we construct sentences and rules for grammer. but there are many different things as well, but in. terms of education it is the same i think

He outed you, which is a pretty callous thing to do even if he was trying to make a point. Nobody's business. If people aren't cynical and believe in merit, you worked hard and earned what you have. Sacrifice and risk, either yours or committed by others in your name are what get you ahead, not "race," despite what some nutty people will assert. People NEVER take culture into account, which is so important and something we're losing sight of as we move ahead. Undergrad years are tough because they really are the last challenge of your worth, and you pulled it off with flying colours. You deserve every good thing you get as a result. Good on you, friend! Enjoy every minute of your life.

As an ABC (American-born-Chinese) I find these sociology classes fascinating. Asians are often lost in the discussion on race, and I'm glad this professor is bringing attention to us in a time of anti-Asian hate crimes and racism. It's nice to not be ignored for us. However, I have to say it's funny watching all the Asians make faces at the pronunciations. Note: we're laughing with the speakers trying to pronounce Asian names, not at them. It's all in good fun.

Beware of base rate fallacy. For example, the fact that you haven't come in contact with parents who brag about their children might just mean such family won't be in a context that will end up going to where you are.

When the prof said "the Chinese is GOnnA TaKe over the woRld," I felt like he just brought up the impression of "yellow peril" and smash this ideology into these international students' face. This is the most uncomfortable part for me during this lecture. Hey prof, have you noticed the rapidly growing racial hate crime that is going on in Asian community since the pandemic started in the US, and do you know this hatred has a lot to do with what Trump said in public? Sometimes it is easy for you to say something, but just remember that there are people taking the unpleasant and even deadly consequences of your words. As a sociology prof in Penn State, you have a more impactful voice than you think.

pls be aware that taiwan is a province name, whether u think it belongs to Republic of China(which r not recognized as a country by most of the countries) or People Republic of China. If you think I am wrong, look at the constitution of Republic of China, it says that Taiwan is a province, they also claim that mainland(PRC) is part of Republic of China. If i was there i will directly tell everyone in the classroom the name of their country is Republic of China , and people who lives there r Chinese.

@@billtung9133 Dat is because from 1992, they removed the identity of Chinese out of their education textbook. It's funny that my grandpa's brother went to taiwan with the ROC government and returned 10 years ago and u still think I am the one who did not received correct information. And i need to mention that the majority of people who lives in Taiwan are the Han Chinese. They can claim whatever they want but they can't change their skin and blood. U can keep thinking all the news in china r propaganda though, it is pretty cool for me and u.

@@billtung9133 Dats your thoughts, I don't want to change that, but u do know Chinese gov will never allow this to continue so as the majority of people in China. @@billtung9133 Dats true, just look at Singapore, but Qing Dynasty never ruled that place. I think it is already enough said for this issue, we can't change the situation but to make people from two places treat each other more peacefully. The mayor of GaoXiong is pretty good for me and most of Chinese people. However if DPP kept on top, the situation will be way more intense for sure.

Sam really is not a good questioner. He obviously has not thought about how to formulate a question. The USA is not The West, it is a single country in the West and most people in Western countries do not over brag or boast. The Chinese pouring massive amounts of cement is not what Sam is thinking. The Chinese have built large numbers of ghost cities, i.e. cities that have no one living in them. Infrastructure projects with no use at all. China is not taking over Africa, Vietnam or anywhere else. Sam is intoxicated with spurious information, most of which is just wrong and or based upon false or superficial information. China is not going to run the show. It is collapsing as we speak and by 2050, likely will not exist as we know it. There are a myriad of existential threats to China and any one of them will destroy the country. 1. Demographic implosion: From 2020 to 2050, China will lose an astounding 200 million working-age adults 2. A communist/authoritarian govt. which is abusing their citizenry. 3. Real estate crisis; Evergrande 4. Massive debt and out of control spending and printing of money, dwarfing what is going on in the USA. China’s total debt surged eight-fold between 2008 and 2019 and exceeded 300 percent of GDP prior to COVID-19. 5. Corruption at every level 6. Poor innovation and still massively underdeveloped 7. Completely dependent on foreign oil/energy 8. Completely dependent on foreign trade 9. Military adventurism and the alienation of foreign enemies. 10. Covid, locking down entire cities 11. China's growing military but inherently weak and unexperienced. 12. Foreign dependence on food 13. China is no longer cheap and foreign capital flight is rampant 14. US has cut China off from high tech. 15. Chinese growth has slowed dramatically
