Love the rugs. However, I would recommend to rotate the rug in the drawing room 90 degrees so it’s wider in front of the fireplace and giving enough room for the chairs to sit on it as well. This will define the sitting space in the room and not expand past the back of the sofa. Can’t wait to see how this room turns out!

You may want to talk to a decorator about the size of rugs you need in each room. The proper size rug makes all of the difference in the world. It’s one of the most common mistakes people make in decorating their home. It’s just a matter of knowing the proper size to buy to really enhance each room.🥰

Hi Josie, your fire is the same as I had in my previous house, We put logs under it too, to help dry them out. One day the fire got that hot that they started to smoke, presumably because they were so dry, We ended up keeping them stacked at the sides of the fire instead. They still dried out, but it was a lot safer xxx

Our friends stacked theirs down the side, one afternoon they’d fallen asleep and awoke to a room filled with black smoke, they had to got two hot down the side, I reckon it’s best to not have them anywhere near the fire... just wanted to warn you all xx

Josie - move that wood right away! I see a lot of people storing wood for the woodstove underneath or right next to it. Heat radiating from the stove can ignite the wood. Please keep it a little ways away at least- there are so many beautiful log holders that you can buy.

Consider flipping the rug in your gorgeous drawing room to horizontal - to work with the visual weight of the fireplace - and then try the two chairs on each side of the fireplace! And yes! another vote for a larger rug (maybe a huge sisal rug for now?) for the dining room - and a cover for the front of the radiator! Maybe look for a huge iron or copper cauldron for the dining room fireplace! Much love to the sweetest doggies too! Charlie needs a strong blackthorn walking stick!!

Josie, Have you considered giving anything in your house that you want to get rid of to the maintance people that you've had doing work on your house? When we had our kitchen & dining room painted, we gave our "old" furniture to the painter for his son & daughter in law. It was his "tip" for doing a great job. Just a suggestion, I don't know if that's "proper etiquette" in England.

As a coalminers daughter the term for leaving the door open is ‘ draw the fire’ it just means air draws through the sticks for quick ignition, once the fire is roaring you shut the ‘ damper’ then the heat goes into the room and not up the chimney. Can’t do without the fires in my house and I’m lucky that they heat the hot water too. ❤️

I mentioned in a previous comment before that the problem with sponsored content is that even if an influencer likes the brand/product they are promoting, they might not have actually purchased those items if they had to pay for it with their own money. I think long time subscribers can tell if an influencer genuinely loves an item based off the items they’ve used regularly that weren’t gifted/sponsored. For example, Freddy from Freddy My Love uses a Phillips toothbrush that has been mentioned in so many of her old “get ready with me” or “morning routine” videos. So if she did a sponsored video with Phillips, I don’t think anyone would be surprised. But when Josie did a sponsored video with a toothbrush brand, it felt less authentic because she had never mentioned that toothbrush before (at least not that I can remember). So even though Josie likes that toothbrush (because who wouldn’t like a free electric toothbrush? lol), I am not necessarily convinced she would buy that specific toothbrush if it wasn’t for the sponsorship. But if she did a sponsored post with Reiss, it would feel much more authentic because I know how many Reiss items she has purchased with her own money over the years.

Charlie‘s is right, you definitely need a big rug in the dining room. There is nothing worse than the rug being too small when you pull the chairs out. It’s a beautiful floor, but this is more important, in my opinion. I have honest, I think your one in the sitting room is too small. The rug should sit under the sofa. I would prefer this one in the pink room. They are very nice and I am so excited for you both. xx

Love seeing all the new additions for the house. Rugs can add so much character to a room, set the tone and feel for the room, ground the space and provide a color palette of so many options which you can emphasize at will with other furniture and decor pieces, as well as switch the emphasis up according to seasons! Rugs are without a doubt expensive and the larger they are, the expense can be enormous! However, having a bargain rug allowing you to play around, get to know what sizes suit or cause issues, while keeping your eye out for the perfect “investment rug” might be a very wise way to go! I’m not sure if it is all expense related for so many people, but so often rugs are too small for their spaces. Of course it’s a personal preference, but I like a rug to fill the majority of the room, especially in a dining room! It is important to be able to keep all legs of the chairs on the rug when getting in and out of the chair! Otherwise it can be difficult and cause serious issues, especially if you have older people visiting. I think that style of rug will look great in your drawing room! Traditionally classic and a timeless look. However, if you spin the rug back the way it was when you first placed it, I think it will beautifully establish the main conversation area with all furniture legs on the rug... which is very lux and ideal if you can swing it financially! Often with a room as large as your drawing room, you could easily have more than one rug, depending on how many functional areas you establish and how you plan on utilizing all that magnificent space! Have fun, move them from room to room to gage the proper sizing and peruse all the traditional and country-chic design magazines and websites to find ideas and resources! Make sure everything is returnable so you can have exactly what you want! You’ve got years to play around and decide! 😉☺️🥰 This is so exciting! I hope you’re loving every minute!

Spiders love stacked wood. I discovered this when I bought a house and the previous owner left me a stack and black widows occupied it. It was outside. Needless to say I promptly gifted it to a neighbor who loved wood fires. Beware! I’m sure Charlie can keep an eye out and if you burn it frequently, that might take care of the problem. I have a natural gas fireplace and I love it. It’s lit with a remote control.

In the Drawing Room you need to rotate the rug to be landscape, not portrait. The way you are laying out the room you need to create zones, and it doesn't look right for the rug to be poking out the back of the sofa - the sofa needs to be on the edge of it.

It's funny you say, 'If it was sunny all the time I'd be happy and jolly'. Years ago there was a couple that moved from England to Australia and about a year later the wife said, 'We have to go home to England where each days weather is different, being sunny everyday is too much it's boring,' It was a show like 'House Hunters or similar'. She definitely made all the Aussies laugh. I'm living in Vancouver and our weather is very much like England. Raining here too for the next week. I think generally most people like the sun, me included.

Honestly I cannot blame you for always talking about weather over there. Every time I have to go back to visit I remember how bone-chilling the UK weather (damp! and buildings not properly heated!) is and how much it does impact one's outlook because of that. It's kind of fun to watch your home evolution, I remember going through that stage a few years ago but it seems really remote now as we're spending this time in a small pied-a-terre. But where you are, when you have to be inside so much, it must be a comfort to have a giant space to hang out in.
