Its on...when you declare that your boat is the fastest cruiser trimarian on the water. I can see it now... The most watched episode on YT ... A trimaran rece between you and La Vagabond. The boat is beautiful. Fare winds dear friends.
@sailoceans
Жыл бұрын
Thank you, though we specifically claim that ours is the fastest CRUISING tri out there. Rapido is very likely faster than Poly in most if not all conditions. However, we don't consider the new La Vagabonde to be suitable for cruising with even just a family of 4 onboard beyond a weekend away from the supply chain in any sort of reasonable comfort. In our humble opinion it does not offer sufficient space for either the occupants or nor the provisions and stock of spare parts and tools to serve as a proper long term living and sailing platform away from the system for extended periods of time. Of course that again is only our opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own, but we very much believe we may be proven correct once they actually start their adventure with the new boat. Cheers and thank you again for watching and writing us. Fare winds to you too mate. B

@aquasapien9275 we're up, but they are on the other side of the World and not in the water. Plus we have to wait a bit and race not until they will have loaded all their living necessities and comforts aboard just like we did over the last few year adding few tonnes. These boats are very weight sensitive as they significantly sink with every additional ton of load degrading performance even more significantly. U can't have it both ways all the way :😀. Cheers. B

Simply astounding the massive all around improvements you did to your boat. There's so much it's hard to take it all in one viewing. The cabins in the amas are an excellent idea. Very comfy looking and ideal to get away from activity in the bridge-deck living area. Especially useful if you often have overnight guests. The Neel 47 also has cabins in the amas separate from the saloon and its popular with owners of that model. Incidentally, Neel must have been ahead of their time by running lines into the interior of the saloon in the original configuration of your yacht. Other manufacturers have also done this. I understand it didn't make sense for your needs because this is foremost a home and wouldn't be optimal to retain lines inside. The yachts that have interior lines are specialized boats. The tech room looks extremely well done and reminds me of the corresponding room in the Neel 51, which has been praised in every review of that model for its unique functionality and practicality. Superbly well thought out modifications. Can't thank you enough for showing us your amazing home and yacht. I'm learning a lot in each episode and cannot wait for the next one!

Que maravilha, parabéns! Um caloroso alô direto do Brasil!
Poly looks great. I'd rather own and sail her than a brand new one. In general a well refitted boat is often better than a new one. Brilliant fix of the living room seat storage. There are a lot of things in our world designed in minutes, never given a second thought, and then they annoy the crap out of us every time we use them. (The guys on my recent crossing always gave me a hard time because I complain about this stuff. I also want to fix it. When one guy suggested "Why don't you write a letter to the company?" They enjoyed harassing me with that, until I told them about a letter I wrote to Ford and they gave us a free car. ) Do you communicate with Neel about any of this? Surely over the years since Poly was a prototype you and they have come up with a lot of ideas. I like dirtbag camping in my cars. My Prius V was perfect. There's a handhold above each rear door. From the driver's seat, I can stretch back, grab the handhold and pull myself back on to my mattress. I fold like a jackknife, then extend my legs to the back. (All my childhood astronaut fantasies!) My Tesla Model Y, even more comfortable, doesn't have this handle so even though it's bigger, it's harder to get back there and turned around. Maybe in the Polynesian suite and the ama berths hand holds might make it easier to get in and out. I like hand holds everywhere. I figured out that two or three handles on those really steep Japanese staircases and you could go up and down faster and safer than any stairway or ladder. We had Starlink on our sailing voyage from Vietnam to Canada. The biggest issue was turning off all the parasitic functions on our phones: auto back up, photo sharing, auto updates of apps we never use. Navionics app was a huge draw. The owner and first mate kept it, I had to turn mine off. One day I downloaded a 200mb file from Audible, read a couple of newspapers, no video -- 4 Gigs. I'm still trying to figure that out.
@sailoceans
Жыл бұрын
I agree. Ignorance is not a bliss ;). Though I admit I usually take a different angle. Rather than complaining to the manufacturer I fix it myself, because it's usually quicker :D. I do agree that some of the stuff in some design is not well thought out, but I think it is often because designers do not sail the boats, so no direct feedback on own creations. In their defence, it's impossible to create a boat, a car that fits everyone's priorities. Hence if you want near perfection that serves maximum number of your priorities you're destined to design and perfect your own. We decided on the compromise and took what was a neglected genius platform and concept and rebuilt it modifying to serve our unique requirements as best as it's humanly possible given the superstructure and some other constraints. Thank you for sharing your stories. I feel you with the internet. We just used Starlink on the way back from the Bahamas and one day we had a similar spike that cost us pretty penny. It wasn't obvious what went into internet devouring mode and I had more important things to take care of on that trip than a full on network admin investigation :D. Cheers mate. Happy sailing. B

It is very difficult to asses on the cost side and there are few different reason some of which you already rightly pointed out. The guest cabins being not too comfortable is the same philosophy as the Daschew familly on their huge Beowulf explorer monohull .... You can still mount and run compact electric retracting drives in the out riggers if you go hybrid sometime. Take a look at the Windelos... by the way Basalt for boat buildinging is being developed in Poland .. . The other thing is a new generation of compact efficient ICe Motors as APU generator engines is being developed ... The result tends to be they are 30% more fuel efficient ...they are very compact ..lighter and simpler to run and maintain. Fluid piston motors seem to be heading up the game but there is also the free opposed piston recipprocating generator from the Uk ... Durham university.
@sailoceans
Жыл бұрын
We'll talk about it, but for us reliability is the key. I know nothing of these new motor designs. Perhaps they are indeed revolutionary. However, if we use the engine for few hundred hours a year any however big savings are still negligible in a grand scheme. Hence our ultimate decision to keep the bigger diesel. Thank you for the info though. I'll read up on it at some point. Cheers. B
