Guys great video. Any monthly Dividend paying ETFS?
@ZhangtheGreat
3 жыл бұрын
Ditto to not just investing by looking at the yield. Let me point out one specific example that, even though I knew about it, I decided to chance anyway: QYLD, which has a dividend yield at this time of over 11% _and_ pays _monthly_ dividends. While it's a fund that's not "too good to be true," since it tracks the S&P500 just like VOO or SPY, its _major_ drawback is that, after a market pullback or correction, it can take _forever_ to recover the overall value it lost because it sells covered calls on its securities, thus limiting gains in return for its dividends.
@saulza2

@@saulza2 very low price appreciation during bull markets. It sells covered calls to generate yield. So when stocks go up substantially the index doesn’t get those gains, it just gets cash for the calls it sells. It beats QQQ in flat or down markets, but substantially underperforms in bull markets on a total return basis.

I would be very surprised if the stock returns over the last 11 years continue much longer. In addition to the possibility of the bubble bursting and a sudden 20% drop, I expect the rate of return for the next 5 years be under 5%. But within 10 years it probably gets back into the high return groove (rich people need to put their money somewhere).

That’s the 64 million dollar question. EVERYTHING is at the top or near their all time highs. Real estate is ready to decline also. I suggest nothing. Be cautious is all I can say. 13 years ago the market hit 6500. It wasn’t that long ago. Lots of people made tremendous money during this historic astronomical rise in the market but it remains to be seen where they’ll be if it crashes. Lots of political ineptness to deal with and there won’t be solutions coming from them.

Another fund to consider would be DLN by WisdomTree. It has a little more Tech exposure for some growth, but a steadily growing dividend too. Plus it pays out monthly dividends which could be a plus while you're in retirement. My only negative comment about it is the higher expense ratio. But just something I have in my own dividend portfolio to compliment some of the other funds you mentioned!

Good picks, all giving you Div and growth. I am 60 so at this point growth is not that important. I took a lot of time and researched several ETF with high div and came out with this mixture. SCHD at 35 percent, QYLD at 25 percent, NUSI at 20 percent and JEPI at 20 percent. This formula give me a decent growth rate with SCHD, NUSI for protection and 7.9 Div rate, JEPI for protection and also a 7.9 Div rate, and both have about a 10 percent growth rate. QYLD at 12 percent Div rate but maybe 2-3 percent growth. This should make as much as my police pension gives me each month and still some growth to leave my kids when i depart from this earth. Thanks for the videos they are very helpful!

Thanks for this very useful video. Very well articulated with practical ETFs provided for us to look into. Say I have a ETF focused on Capital Gains that returned 35% in 2020-2021 and a High Yield Dividend ETF that returned 17% in Capital Gains + 2.5% in Dividend Yield every Quarter making it a total return of 27% for 2020-2021. 1) Wouldn’t it be better for me to purchase the ETF Focussed on Capital Gains ? 2) Also I assume you purchase high yield ETF because you are in a phase of your rich journey where you need regular income in early retirement ? Looking for your inputs to get greater clarity on my understanding of the topic.

You speak about dividends and that it's great to re-invest them automatically. I have always done that but I simply don't understand how dividends can fit into an income stream. Can you discuss how/when it would be a good idea to take the dividends as cash? Thanks!
@alwaysright5901

People normally start taking out dividends after retirement when you're no longer working. While working, you try to max out the most of your contributions into your portfolio so that you have enough shares to get the dividends each share gives to live off of. Also, while working and making max contributions, the dividends that accumulate in your portfolio are to be reinvested back into the portfolio by buying even more shares. This is called the DRIP method and most brokerages offer this as an automated tool. The whole point is to grow your portfolio while young and working so that when retirement age nears, you would've accumulated enough shares paying dividends to replace your working income or at least supplement your social security. Hope this helps.

I realize both of you are a LONG way from thinking about ‘elder years’, but on the other hand you’re both long-term thinkers. So my question / ask is maybe you could research and give some info about elder care in Portugal. If you stay there LONG term what are the prospects for really good elder care especially if, say, one or both of you need help? Even if we’re healthy at 40 or 50 things can happen in the next 10 or 20 years that are unexpected. I’m asking because I’m 62. I traveled the world with work and I personally loved Portugal however at my age I’d want to know what’s there in terms of elder care in case I consider moving there (which I’m fully capable of financially) and maybe something happens and I need assistance when I get older? Maybe this isn’t in line with your ‘normal’ topics, but again, it IS in line with ‘long term’ thinking. Thanks for all your videos. Very informative. .... PS. I don’t mean to be a ‘downer’ but I’m speaking of really unexpected and/or potentially devastating things like stroke, heart attack, early onset dementia, etc. ... situations where it’s possible outside help will be needed and that family cannot provide 100% support. I would be a single living there so these considerations would be important. It’s definitely a concerning topic even in the US, or maybe ‘especially’ in the US.

Any time a stock or a fund declares a dividend the value goes down as well. I’m not sure that that makes any difference when a dividend is declared as the value of my holdings are the same as before. ETFs are great reserve for your passive investments, but actively seeking out individual stocks for their growth is also important. It is a great way to maintain and compound your wealth. The Bitcoin ETF introduction marks a revolutionary step in finance. Buying significantly at the October low paid off as I recently sold $180,000 in cash. Apologies to those who missed out; listening to bad news throughout the year led to missed incredible profits.

What is the difference between Dividend Appreciation ETFs and High Dividend Yield ETFs?
@UnplayedGaming

Dividend appreciation means the companies raise their dividends by alot over time so you will se more exponential growth. Yield means the companies start out with a high Dividend percentage but might not raise Dividend over time

But what about $JEPI the new Premium Income ETF by JP Morgan which was only previously available only to those with a million or more in assets but now they created the same vehicle in an ETF wrapper for everyone.

I have a Vanguard account. Would it benefit to invest in VYM if I’m already investing in VTI, VXUS, BND, and BNDX?

I though u only invested on index funds, good to know you are into dividends as well 😊. Could you comment if you invest equal amounts on each etf? (On the portfolio you started in March 2020, the percentages are different on your index funds). And comparing to index funds, do you invest more in dividends, index funds, or equal parts? Thank you! Follow u on yt and ig ❤️

@@DavidEVogel yes David, I know, just wanted to know their strategy. I only knew rich journey was doing index funds. I have been following them for a while 😊 so I am interested on a detailed dividends etf strategy

What are your thoughts on VHYAX vs VYM? The automated investing for DCA on VHYAX is attractive dispite the slightly higher expense ratio.

Wait…in one of your previous videos, you said if you had to choose one to keep things simple you would pick VTSAX. So, if you had to choose between VYM and VTSAX, who would you choose in that case? Both have good yields and cap growth potentials. Thanks in advance

They have both, VTSAX is their only fund in their Roth IRA but apparently they also have it in their brokerage account along with their other funds.

Thank you Lamont and Christina for another excellent video. I have been investing for a long time. But I always learn something with each new video that you post. This video gave me pause to think about dividend paying investments. I have never given much thought as to which type of account should hold investments that pay dividends. But after watching this video I am reconsidering the distribution of my investments in TAXABLE vs. TAX -Deferred accounts. I had much rather pay capital gains tax (at the present rate) on profits and defer tax on dividends which are taxed as regular income. Moreover, dividends received in your TAX-Deferred accounts can be reinvested and grow your wealth without tax liability until you take a distribution down the road. On the other hand, capital gains made in a TAX-Deferred account are also taxed as regular income when taken out of your TAX-Deferred account. Of course it is not all black and white. You must strive to seek a balance. But am I am certainly going to consider giving weight to putting my dividend paying investments into my TAX-Deferred accounts. Great information!

Can anyone recommend a good monthly rental place in or near Lisbon? I thought it's a good idea to ask such a nice community. Thanks for any suggestions! :D
