In the San Antonio West Side rhythm and blues scene, the only group who could compete in popularity with the Royal Jesters was the Sunliners, fronted and managed by Sunny Ozuna (Ildefonso Fraga Ozuna).
Sunny started singing and performing with his high school friend Rudy Guerra in thier first band, The Galaxies, in 1957. At the time he was only 15 years old. A year later, Guerra's brother Manny, the drummer for Isidro López, was putting together a group called The Sunglows and called in young Sunny to be their singer. Their first recording was Just a Moment in 1959.
Their big break came in 1963 when they had a Top 10 hit with a cover of Little Willie John's "Talk To Me." About the same time, Sunny and the band had some differences, so Sunny went to Dallas and founded a new band, The Sunliners. The success of "Talk to Me" got them an appearance on Dick Clark's American Bandstand. They continued to produce hits making them a big name Texas.
