Benjamin Lazrus was my great grandfather - very proud of the company he created and the watches he made. Thanks for showing it off in this video.

8:35 Listening to this video with headphones is actually fun. All the mysterious sounds coming from all over. Kinda cool. 😉👍🏻 Very nice field watches. That Benrus was definitely kept nice. Most old fields are beat to heck. That Seiko field is a nice design. I like the turtleesc case shape.

Super cool Spencer. I have 4 Bulovas from the late 60's and early 70's. Great styling, gorgeous movements and they keep impeccable time. My second favorite brand behind Seiko for sure. Oh and GO SOX!

The issue with the Vietnam era issue watches was that they were not designed to be serviced. Also, they were not designed to cope with the very hostile enviroment of Vietnam. That said, not bad watches. Despite a reputation as plastic watches and for being disposable , many proved to be quite durable. Not all were plastic, evidently, and many did survive field service. I bought an unissued Benrus that I wore for years. Also love military watches. Thanks for the video.

Sweet watch, great period, but that band is sublime! I think you pegged it - worn a little and put away. And '67 is a perfect period for a Vietnam watch. Not as cool as a MKI or MKII but a great place holder!

They might have come back after there tour and wanted to keep it for the history they had with the watch. Wearing it day after the war might have brought back some memories they wanted leave behind…

Like you Spencer, I just love history. I have a small collection of antique firearms and I always wonder, what stories there must be associated with each one I add to my collection.

I had a DTU like that when I was a teenager that got broken when I was skating and put in my friend’s glovebox two days before her car got impounded. I wonder if that’s my old watch. If so, I’m glad someone restored it.

You certainly have a thing for the watches from the Vietnam War. Meanwhile, I am not sure of it is me or the actual trend is back to those under 40mm watches ( since the last Baselworld ) ??? Interesting video as usual.

Tremendous find Spencer. Wondering what, if anything, can be done about the movement shifting in the case when you pull on the crown. Shims maybe?
@terrydepew1252

i wonder if the movement spacer ring is missing? Of course the watch would have to been opened for the spacer ring to go missing and Spencer seems sure it has not been opened. In any case this was a very interesting history lesson on Seiko watches. Thank you Spencer. I am well on to geezerville and remember Seiko's and the lore surrounding them from that era. My first Seiko was a brown dial Seiko SQ Sports 100. Movement 7123-823F purchased for $180.00 in 1980 in Wisconsin. Quartz was all the rage then so i hardly paid any mind to the automatic 6309 in the case for something like $250. So i missed out on what i now consider the perfect watch. 12 or 15 years ago i came to realize i would eventually go back to a mechanical self wind watch. 007's were close but when Seiko brought out the new and improved Turtle i knew it was time. So far i have two of them. What a tank of a watch. Near instant legibility in most any light, Glows like a torch if there is no light, times pizza and other delights in the oven, shrugs off anything my truck driving self can throw at it. Oh did i say that i like Seiko watches?

That was my thought too about the movement holder / spacer ring but came to the same conclusion about it having never been opened, or has it? I asked because I have an Orient that has a metal movement holder but it shifts just a hair or two when I pull out the crown to set the time. I'm the only one who's ever opened it so I know nothing is missing.

Hi, Watch strap is original? Seems a bit odd for a military watch, don’t you think?
@SpencerKleinVintageWatch

No. Straps were changed all the time. The strap or bracelet is an accessory. The watch is the actual watch.

It's probably best left to a watchmaker, I bought the watch in this video from Spencer & then got my watchmaker to service it. I think they use a tool with lots of metal figures on it for want of a better word the pull it out from front as you can't remove it from behind, thanks

We are probably contemporaries but in the 70s and early-80s, even as a child of immigrants with a language barrier, I was obsessed with the watches and other things in pawn and antique shops. However, I was also a little hesitant because I thought these really cool items were at the store because the original owners fell on hard times for whatever reasons.
