A very hot day, and another long video.
I have been wanting to paddle this section of the River Rother for some time now, the problem was I could not find a suitable launch and exit point. In this video, I paddle upstream from Bodiam Boating Station to Bodiam Castle. Out and back, this journey is approximately 7 miles, however I cover 8 miles in total.
I launched and exited at Bodiam Boating Station's Jetty, having contacted Alex (the owner) to seek permission. This water centre and campsite does allow self launches in the quieter months, but it is important that you contact them for permission first. The fee charged was cheap considering you can also park there for the day. While at the campsite, I took a short walk around, checking out the facilities, the Lime Wharf Café, and the camping area. I must admit, I was really impressed, and I am looking at pitching up there for a few nights in the near future. Alex and all the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and I would like to thank them for allowing me to visit this lovely water activities centre and campsite, and launch craft from their jetty.

About The River Rother:
The River Rother in East Sussex is a 35-mile-long river crossing East Sussex and Kent. It rises near Rotherfield in East Sussex and ends at Rye Bay where it joins the English Channel.
The river has been used as a navigation since Roman times and no licence is required to paddle here. It is tidal for the last 4 miles or so. Make sure you check tide timetables before heading out below the sluice. See the map above for more. If you want to paddle somewhere more peaceful, the stretch of the River Rother in East Sussex up towards Bodiam Castle is a great place to paddle. Here, the canal is only really navigable by small craft. So paddlers, paddle here to enjoy being at one with nature!
