Consider low voltage LED lights. The cable is direct-burial (no PVC required), and consumes less electricity. The downside is that you won't have 110v outlets. Also, most places in the USA would require 18" depth (or maybe 12") for 110v cables. Check your local city ordinances.

Hi Sonny, I worried about my desert rose. It’s finally starting to leaf out but I noticed a soft spot near the base and was worried the was root rot happening. It’s dry, I haven’t overwatered it at all. There’s no flies or fungus that I can see. Should I worry about this spot? The rest of the plant is hard like it should be. Except for this area and a little soft spot in another area at the base. Should I do anything with it or just keep an eye on it? Is there a way of checking without completely uprooting the whole plant? Kim🇨🇦

Too much work. Low voltage LEDs are the way to go. Plus would not pass code in many places as power lines must be buried much deeper than a few inches. Also with low voltage there is no risk if shock.
