I just picked up a pair of Bose L1 Pro 32's and two additional Sub 1's for a total of 4 Sub 1's!! I took them all to my usual testing grounds to see what they could do. They are loud! They are clear as a bell - and - they are balanced from bottom to top!! These are by far the best column line array speakers I've ever heard. The sound is similar to studio monitors - but really, really loud and immersive. I actually had to drop the stereo mic on the camera by 10 dB to keep it from clipping (I haven't had to do this on any of my other videos). If you have the money to go this route - you will not be disappointed. I'm able to fit this entire setup in my compact hybrid car along with two Gigbar 2 light rigs and still have room for a passenger. It's crazy just how loud, but compact and lightweight this setup is. It's also absolutely true what Bose touts about these 32 articulated driver arrays - I was able to walk away from the speakers approximately 100'-0" and it was still performance level loud - and - not just overwhelmingly harsh at the very front (loud dance level).
Two Sub1's stacked is roughly equal to a single Sub2. The Sub2's frequency range (-10dB) extends down to 29Hz - The Sub1's frequency range (-10dB) extends down to 32Hz. A pair of stacked Sub1's would put out a maximum peak SPL of 130.6 dB, while a single Sub 2 puts out 129.8 dB. The big difference for an old guy like me is that I can carry two Sub1's much easier than I can carry a single Sub2.
I used the same pair of 500 watt (1000 watt peak) battery packs that I've been using for my other tests and they worked up to a point - but - I was not able to reach clipping with two Sub 1's on each side without losing power. I was able to reach clipping with a single Sub 1 each side and it sounded awesome! For country, folk, singer songwriter, jazz or even classic rock a single Sub 1 will probably do the job just fine - but - with two Sub 1's - you can actually feel the kick drum in your chest. Mids are rich and the highs are crisp. I'm now getting another battery / inverter setup to see if I can bring them to full power. More to come!!
