Agreed. I was born in '92 so my love for classic rock was indoctrinated by my dad and some bands/songs slipped through the cracks. The first time I heard this was about two years ago (at 27 years old) and my first thought was: "This is basically Free Bird but even better." Southern rock, heavy guitar emphasis with very extended guitar solos, way longer than most classic rock songs, etc. Blew me away. I listened to it on repeat for days if not weeks after discovering it and it's become a song that will always be in regular rotation.

I lived in Massachusetts in the early 90's when it was announced that The Outlaws would be playing a local club. It was in February and the day of the show there was a huge blizzard. I knew the show would be cancelled but I drove out there about 8 pm, just to check. I walked in and the bartender said the band was already there and the show was going to go on. When they came on stage around 10 pm, I kid you not, there were about 25 people in the place. They came on and played an entire show, just like they were playing to 25,000 instead of 25. They ended the show with this song and after that they set down their instruments they came out to chat with the crowd. I got to meet Huey and chat with him and the other members of the band . It is a memory I will never forget...

Three guitars- no waiting! Of all the remarkable musicians born of the southern rock explosion of the early 70's-I think Hughie was the greatest of the great. What an amazing talent. Saw Outlaws 6 or 7 times over the years, thankfully caught a FREE show at Mohegan Sun in CT with this line up- only weeks before Hughies tragic and untimely passing, Back in the day,('78) you could see the Outlaws, Molly Hatchet, AND .38 Special at an outdoor show for 8 bucks. Bass player, Randy Threet and of course, the legendary Hughie Thomasson (along with double drummers Monte Yoho and David Dix ). @@barrywainwright3391 Watch the video and read the heading. This is from 2007 when Hughie was still alive. That's Hughie wearing the black hat (he's dressed like he usually was when he played with Lynyrd Skynyrd). Billy Jones was long gone by the time Hughie put the Outlaws back together so obviously he's not there. Hughie died not too long after this show was recorded, so the guys touring nowadays as the Outlaws (under the direction of Henry Paul) are not really the Outlaws. Hughie has to be there for it to really be the Outlaws.

I love this song it's been one of my all time favorites since I was a kid and I was born in the 1960s. Real music being played by real musicians that are masters of their art & craft. I wish today's music was still like this. Sometimes when I'm driving around in my car with the windows down and I'm blasting this this song through the stereo's MP3 player I either get approving nods or confused looks. I pity those that give confused looks because they don't know anything about this type of music.

Great band! One of my friends recently introduced me their music. He saw them open for Kansas in the 70's. How I have gone 40 years of my life without hearing these guys is beyond me.

I had the album on vinyl in 1974. One of my most treasured possessions. I would get smoked up, put on the headphones, lay down on the bed, turn off the light and just let them carry me away. They were so great and their really long jam was so good. Every one was an extremely talented guitarist. SURE WISH I STILL HAD THAT ALBUM. 😪

I saw The Outlaws during the Ghost Riders Tour. It was towards the end of the series when Monte Yoho joined for a few shows. David Dix on drums TOO with Freddie Salem, Billy Jones and Hughie Thomasson on guitars. Nicky Cua I THINK played Bass. They played ALL the hits and the show lasted ALL night long. What musicianship!

I saw Skynyrd in 1975 at the Sam Houston Coliseum in Houston. When they got to the solo in Free Bird, The fans rushing the stage and the security came out and literally threw people off the stage into the crown... It was that good!!!

All of you that are gripping couldn't play well enough to stand in these guys shadows. Members from 2 other bands there that day joined in for a jam session on 1 of the Outlaws songs. Most good bands have a lead jam during a portion of the song. Watch any Allman Brothers concert. These guys were Jammin and enjoying it.

Thank you so much for posting this. I knew Chris Worker from the CDB. Now I know the others. I will always be a fan of Southern Rock. I'be only had the pleasure of seeing these guys once back in the late 80's. They opened for Charlie in Homestead, FL. I have all the album's on vinyl. Except for Dixie Highway, the newest one. Henry wrote a great tune on it called Southern Rock Will Never Die with Tommy Crain's brother Billy. God bless Hughie, Charlie, Duane, Toy, Taz, and everyone we've lost over the decades.

I would have to say, a most noble thing about Hughie Thomasson was, even though HE was The Outlaws (since he owned the name), he had no problem sharing the limelight. I've been in too many bands where someone else wanted to hog the spotlight when they knew they couldn't handle it.

I was looking for this song one day and I was so happy to find it but now I'm watching the live version I can't believe how good they sound Live they don't miss a beat and that's how you can tell a good band I'm sure you people know a lot of bands out there sound good in the studio but there true test is playing Live and they nailed it on this song

Saw these guys at Clearwater Beach, Fla around 1973 or 1974. Saw them again TWICE on Rock Legends Cruise in the last few years. Had a beer (or maybe something more meaningful) with bass man Randy. Very cool dude. This band is an example of rock history and longevity. May they rock on forever. Their music was a big part of my post- Vietnam war combat recovery.

Saw the Outlaws back in 1982 during a big 2 foot snow storm at the Rutger's state college in New Brunswick, didn't think the show would be played but we went anyway and I guess about 100 people showed up. What a great show they put on and we even got front row seating woohoo.

Look how much fun those guys were having... good to see Clay Cook and the rest of the Marshall Tucker Band guys up there... this was great! The soundboard guy could've been a little quicker on the mixer when each guy stepped up for a solo, but it was still awesome.
