Just found your channel and am binge watching. ❤️ I am an older mama also with 9 kiddos (including 18-month-old twins). I love seeing how other large families run their homes. God bless from Tennessee!

I tell my patients to avoid juice before the GDM test. (juice is not part of a balanced breakfast IMO)

May i suggest you look into Lily Nichols work? I have studied and researched this topic for years actually. She is a genius. I’ve had 8 babies. My balanced breakfast and the best I’ve ever felt during my pregnancies was when I ate a very protein centric breakfast. That would be bacon and eggs almost daily. I also opted to check my blood sugar myself for the last 2 or 3 babies. I don’t eat sugar much at all. I wish I’d known about eating low carbs/high protein during all my other pregnancies. It was life changing in my recent pregnancies and recoveries.

So glad to hear that you're doing well and that the children are offering help and pampering you. Also glad to know that you are getting on so well with your midwife. My youngest is now 42 years old so I can't really remember, I had fabulous pregnancies, no sickness, no cravings in fact I was at my healthiest while pregnant. Both deliveries were under 6 hours start to finish. I just wish I'd been able to have more children. I can't wait for "bubbes" to make her entry into the world. Wishing you continued health and happiness during your pregnany. Thank you for sharing xxx
What a wonderful gift for you to have so much help. I wish you the best with your delivery and recovery.

There are other ways to test your blood sugar levels. Because of health issues, I wasn't able to drink the sugary drink. They were still able to determine when I did and didn't have gd with my last 4 pregnancies. You are spot on with your thoughts on your healthy eating vs. their thoughts. 😊

I'm going to ask them about this because the more I think about it, the less I want to do it!

For my second child I just declined the test. I am 37 years old and got a lot of pressure from them every visit. They also tested my son repeatedly when he was born. They did not do that with my first son and I had gd test done for him so....@@AshleyMBuffa the testing originally too so long and they pricked me too much. It was painful and uncomfortable while being pregnant. I had no symptoms and ate healthy even though I was told that did not really matter. We are in a day and age where we are being told by doctors to not listen to our intuition as mothers and that is frustrating. It is harder to find supportive doctors. My second baby was over nine pounds and born so fast that he was not eating do to ingesting the amniotic fluid. Their reasoning for the diabetes testing was because he was not eating and his size. Although I found out through lactation consultants that him not eating since he was born so fast was normal while the doctors just stressed me out about it all night after the birth until I could meet with lactation. If I have a third I am hoping to go to a birthing center or do a home birth.

Yes! The gestational diabetes testing is absurd! In my later pregnancies (#11 & #12), I opted to do the blood sugar monitor testing. It was kind of a pain, but definitely more accurate. I had two home births (#7 & #9) and I skipped the testing altogether with those two pregnancies. But like you, I felt more inclined to do it in my older (geriatric) age. 😂So glad to hear everything is going well. Blessings!

Hmm, maybe I will ask for the blood sugar monitoring. I want to be wise, but what they are asking me to do seems like the opposite of wisdom! Being a geriatric pregnant woman isn't for the faint of heart! ;)

40yr & baking #11 atm😉( 27 weeks) & the last several I've just done the glucose monitor and it's been great! I'm going to do it again with this one too! The drink makes me so sick feeling, and it's obviously not good for us!( I don't even drink juice and soda due to its high sugar content, why is their garbage drink ok?!🤦♀️)

I just had my first child Dec 2022 and they wouldn't do the gestational test the first time around bc i had drank water in the morning!! And i was so confused bc they only told me to fast and that water is fine and when i showed up they said no, i wasn't even supposed to have a sip bc im breaking my fast 🤔 I think it just depends on the clinic

I think the collective prenatal care providers in the US need to get their acts together. It's not healthy for a pregnant woman to be fasting for 12 hours, especially with no water.

Two ladies I talked to at church mentioned that they had to fast as well. When were your pregnancies? It's so interesting to me that there are so many different recommendations for the same test!

Please, please, please don't spend all your time in bed. Be sure to get up and walk around a bit once each hour when you're awake and go for at least a short walk each day. During and after pregnancy a womans body is at higher risk for developing blood clots. Too much inactivity can allow a DVT to form. It happened to me when I followed the very bad advice to "just rest" after I had my 7th live birth. After all my previous pregnancies I had gotten right back to "doing life", but was advised after my 7th to "rest for an entire week" due to me being 43 yrs old. It was the absolutely worst advice! I was well hydrated, taking fish oil, breastfeeding, etc., but too much time "just resting" caused a DVT that led to a cascade of medical issues and vascular disease that has left me bed bound and permanently disabled. Of course you need to rest from strenuous lifting/exercise and should take it easy, but don't spend hours laying down. I wouldn't wish what has happened to me on anyone.

The drinks are so bad for you. They can test you fasting and after eating a normal breakfast. I always opt out of the drinks. It’s really unnecessary to down 100 grams of sugar in one sitting.
@AshleyMBuffa

They really need to rethink how they are conducting these tests...there isn't one variable that makes sense for a pregnant woman.
