One of my pet peeves is when I go online to share photos or videos of something, only to have that one know-it-all chime in, doling out advice that you never asked for. IKR, when the post is about something like “what kind of lettuce is your snail’s favorite” with a picture of a snail with no context about the tank and a know-it-all chimes in about a small fish in the background of the photo “your tank is too small for that fish, it needs at least 40 gallons, rehome it NOW” and then the tank of the person posting ends up being like 125 gallons

Yes 😂. I joined a beginners facebook group and oh my goodness, people were soo rude, considering that it was supposed to be a place to share ideas and ask questions. People were posting pictures of their tanks that they were all proud of and getting absolutely slated by snobs who thought their perfectly manicured aquascapes with more greenery than anything else we the only way. I left the group when they were making jokes at the expense of people with SpongeBob decs and calling them tacky! Mine has SpongeBob to please my 8 year old kid fml😮. I swear they were disgusted by anything the fish wouldn’t have in their “natural environment”… ummm… I suspect none of the fish actually have a clue what their habitat looks like 😊

I am lazy, but I honestly find the weekly water change/minor cleaning do be kinda relaxing. 10-15 minutes out of a day off where I might spend most of it gaming to keep everything happy in the tank is pleasant. It keeps the tank pleasant to look at if I decide to just relax there instead of in front of a screen. However, I don't have a huge number of tanks (pretty much only 1 active with some other stuff around for quarantine), so it lets me focus my attention on one tank.

This reminded me of a really silly mistake I did years ago 🤦🏼♀️ I’m still working at a pet store but years ago I had been there for about 2 years at that point and we were moving the fish around to different tanks in our fish area (my favourite section) I was moving a large amount of white cloud minnows, I was catching them and putting them into a little plastic bucket thing that hooks onto the side of the big tanks then tipping that little bucket into the new tank, while loading the little bucket up with fish a customer came up to me to ask for help and stupidly I walked away leaving the danios in the bucket, a few hours later after helping a few different customers I came back to the danios and they had began jumping out of the little bucket onto the floor! I panicked and started to try pick up the multiple danios flopping around on the floor. I was horrified they fish where jumping out! All I can guess is I left them for to long in the little bucket and the oxygen levels where to low with so many fish and they just leaped for it, It’ll never ever let myself be distracted and leave a fish in a terrible position again I also have over flooded a few tanks too because I was distracted 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️

I was looking for this comment. I knew someone else would know about these amazing gadgets. There are also water sensors meant for alerting you to a water leak under a sink that can then be plugged into a home automation system. Then there are also gadgets that you can place on a water shut-off valve. So, if anywhere in your house one of the sensors gets wet all the water will shut off.

Working at petco as an aquatic specialist under the guidance of a really intelligent dude who has been there for 17 years. He basically knows everything about fish even with no formal education. My store manager on the other hand is not so bright. We have to fill the salt water sumps everyday. For some reason the store manager decided to fill them in the morning and forgot about it. He ended up over filling the sumps and completely messing up the salinity. He could have killed thousands of dollars worth of fish, but luckily only two $50 anemones died. To keep from over filling your tanks you can get a sensor that will sound an alarm. Its actually meant for basements but you just binder clip the little sensor to your aquarium and as soon as water touches it, it goes off... I had one of these before I had my basement waterproofed and a sump put in and one day it hit me.... I can use this for the Aquariums. You over fill once you don't want it to happen again!

Would 2 blue acaras, 2 angel fish, 6 corydoras, 1 bristlenose pleco, and 6 2 inch fish in a 48g tank be too much?

Overfeeding. I am guilty!!!! But here's why I do it. I have a 125 gallon tank with about 50 Tiger Barbs. Dang, how I love my Tiger Barbs!!!!!! But they are veracious eaters!!!!! I also have some catfish that are bottom feeders (Striped Raphaels and Synodontis, who I only see about every other week or so!) So I feel like I HAVE to overfeed so some of the food gets PAST the Tiger Barbs to settle on the bottom so the cats have something to eat. Knowing that catfish are nocturnal, they aren't going to come out right away, so I assume that I have to leave food lying on the bottom of the tank until they (the catfish) come out at night to eat. HOW THE HECK DO I FEED TIGER BARBS AND CATFISH IN THE SAME TANK WITHOUT OVERFEEDING?!?!??!?!?! Such a conundrum. Please help! (I'm doing 50% water change weekly, can never keep nitrates under 20ppm!!!!!

🤣🤣🤣🤣impulse control....does MTS count? I just lost my coffee bar because I left the LPS with two Berta's and had to pack it up to set up the tanks. I had the tanks, seeded filters and it had been 5 months since I bought ones so I'll be good for atleast 6 months likely. And one of them will eventually be the center peice fish for my community tank I'm setting up. So it wasn't a horrible impulse buy lol

So I have a REALLY big goldfish tank, obviously I didn’t want to wait for like 10 minutes staring at my bucket... I just left the tap on and went to stare at aquatic animals in a glass box for like 15 minutes.... The bucket overflowed.

I have a 125 with 11 Frontosa cichlids, 2 Raphael Catfish, 3 Severum, 3 upside-down catfish, and 1 Convict Cichlid (recently moved into a 4"x5"x14" cage I built). Is it safe to let the Convict out to be with the other fish? Just curious

I am new at fish aquarium, I bought a 20 Gallon tank and got 24 fishes (4 Angel, 8 glass fish, 4 Platy, 4 Guppies, 2 White skirt Tetras, 2 Danio) in which my 14 fish died. I am using overhead filter with a sponge and a heater set at 25 Celsius. I have used RO water to fill the whole tank. Please let me know why my fishes are dying? Please help

I've never overflowed my tank luckily. However I was emptying a tank one time. Left it running went upstairs for a few minutes. Came back downstairs to discover the bathroom sink couldn't keep up and I had flooded the bathroom. Wife was not happy with that one.
