The Overachiever Midge is a fantastic midge pattern that is quick to tie and really effective.
You want to tie this one small, so use Nanosilk or a GSP thread as it will leave a very small footprint. Start your thread on the hook and take it a bit into the bend. Tie in a Peacock quill and bring your thread back to about an eye length behind the hook eye. Adding a little superglue to the thread wraps will make wrapping the quill a little easier. Carefully, take touching wraps of the quill up the hook to an eye length behind the hook eye, secure it, and remove the waste.
Tie in one strand of dark green crystal flash. Take several wraps of the flash into the wraps of quill - two wraps in width. Secure the flash behind the eye and remove what remains. As I use an olive thread, I will blacken the thread with a Sharpie to finish the fly with a bulbous black head. Whip finish and remove your thread.
Finally, apply a coat of thin UV resin to coat the fly completely. Remove any excess resin and then cure it with your UV light. Your fly is done and ready to fish!
