I find that if I keep carbs low after a refeed it's much easier to deal with the hunger. I had a student that lost significant weight and when I asked him about how he managed it, he said, "I finally discovered that it was okay to feel hungry." Great stuff, thanks for posting.

That makes sense. The problem is switching from burning fat for fuel (Ketosis) to burning glucose and back again. Eating low carb will keep you in ketosis even after you eat because all you're eating is fats and proteins. I may consider this.

15:49 hot shower: my number 1 to do, when fasting gets difficult. Take a nap after. 🫠 16:53 cooking a nice meal for the refeeds. Put them in the freezer for the right moment. Meal planning prevents ‘snacking’ when hunger comes. 19:42 fasting for health mostly. I am painfree when I dont eat a few days. Probably to do with food sensitivities. But I have some weight to get rid of too. Did a 60 hours fast. Refed did 48 hrs fast refed and followd up with IF 16/8. Lost 5 kg in a week. !!

So many people do fasts wrong. I did an eight day water fast and was not hungry at all. Did not have one craving whatsoever because before I did it, I was doing keto staying away from sugars and carbs so therefore my body did not have any of these crazy cravings to have withdrawals over. But for years when I would do like a three day water fast I was eating so bad and then all of a sudden do a water fast cold turkey and therefore my head was pounding and I was feeling miserable and I was starving so that’s one thing that I learned and it works.

Wow....I am exactly at 218 lbs. now and started ADF a week ago (4 days of Water only Fasting completed so far) and for my age (44M) and height (5'8") my GW should be 145 lbs. (though I am very much comfortable with 154 lbs.). And I am in general active person with 1hr cycling/jump rope in the morning and a 5kms or an hour of walking in the evening, every day, except on Sundays. I am lifting some free weights at home along with some compound exercises too. I have kept a target of 100 days of consistent and disciplined ADF without giving into any kind of temptations. And success stories like yours keep me inspired. Thanks a lot for posting this.

I have a question about refeeding calories. Are your 4-6k come under TDEE or you are just eating as to your satiety? I am confused about eating, should I eat as per my TDEE (2666 Cals for maintenance) or little more, on feeding days, and can still lose fat/weight? or do I need to eat less than my TDEE, which is 2166-1666 (to lose 1 to 0.5kg/week)? My worry is, if I eat just TDEE or less than my TDEE on feeding days, won't my metabolism slow down and anything I eat, though little will make up for fat instead, as I am restricting Cals through fasting. I am also worried about the muscle loss. I am comfortable on my fasting days just with water and electrolytes and some black coffee without any sugar, though. Please feel free me as a noob. So, any suggestions here please.

I take 2 quality fish oil capsules about 7 pm so it helps greatly with hunger being a source of healthy fats. I take cod liver oil capsules around noon and also 3g of chorella,,,,been taking these supplements for years. I'm excited to see how much I can lose by October 5 with is my 56th birthday. Blessings on your journey as well.

It's not just you Jerome. Depending on your re-feed and sleep schedule, 12 to 48 hours is always when the hunger hits hardest. Good news is if you get past that first spike, it always gets easier.

When I fasted for 5.5 days I was hungry the first couple of days, but noticed that if I ate a pinch of salt the hunger often went away. So maybe some electrolytes would help get through that hump?

My first goal is to get to 72h within a month. 🙏 You make me want to get to 90h 😅We'll see...hopefully someday 😄 First 72h...here I come 💪

I just found your channel. I've been fasting for a while now, mostly to heal my gut and Hashimotos Thyroiditis. I've done a 10 day fast - my longest to date but it's becoming hard. After day 3 it's normally a breeze but fatigue is getting to me. But the only time I'm not reacting to something in food is when I'm fasting. It's the only time I feel normal

Not for nothing but the minute you go back to your normal ways of eating and drinking all the weight is gonna come back fast with interest trust me. There’s literally no reason to starve yourself unless it’s for something spiritual or religious

Hello hello, I'm on day 8 of what will be somewhere between a 20-30 day fast so of course I'm binging fasting content haha. I've done IF, OMAD, ADF, prolonged, all the things, but mostly I like prolonged, that's what works for me - I so get you on figuring out what you like and digging into it, it's so important to back yourself. Please pardon the essay, but I have thoughts, sorry if you've addressed this elsewhere, but I'm new to your content. Now I understand you don't like to restrict what you eat when you refeed and given that your fasts are only a few days that's fine, but I'm also seeing the theme of being hungry appear over and over throughout the few videos of yours I've watched (I just found you today), so I am piping up. I would highly suggest doing a little experiment during one of your refeeds and eating keto or preferably carnivore and seeing what effect this has on your hunger. It's quite a lot of work for your body to transition between burning ketones (like when you're fasting, on keto: ie less than 20g of carbs a day, or carnivore) and burning carbs for energy. Carbs will make you hungry because once you've burned them your body is expecting more to maintain energy, but there is no more - you have to eat them of course, but you're going straight back into a fast so no dice, whereas with ketones, there's always your fat stores, so you don't get hungry, repeat: you don't get hungry, like at all, so you can just avoid the stress of that battle entirely. That's a lot of mental energy back into thinking about something more useful or productive or fun. On top of the energy supply issue, when you eat carbs your glycogen stores are restocked, which you may be familiar with being type 2 (I'm type 1), glycogen is stored with extra water (I might not be totally scientifically correct there, but that's how I understand it), so when you eat carbs your body goes, hey: awesome, we can restock on glycogen, LFG , which will also add water weight to your body, so you're literally kind of reinflating your body each time you eat carbs inbetween fasts (but with water instead of air of course), this is masking losses you're making as your body focusses on gaining and losing water weight each time you stop and start a fast. You could possibly do alternate refeeds, carnivore or keto once, then unrestricted the next. Something to think about. I don't say any of this from an anti-carb standpoint, I love carbs, but I also know they're why I'm fasting now haha (also for me fasting helps clear my head enormously which I need atm). I haven't dealt with obesity, so I can't understand the nuance that could introduce to your experience since I don't have the experience or knowledge. Maybe there's something to be gained from winning that battle over and over. I can't say, but it sounds really tough to me. You do you, of course, but I think if you just try it out once you'll be pleasantly surprised at the difference with lowering carbs on refeeds, maybe it's something you work into your routine, maybe not. Also, if you're not already familiar, I would highly recommend checking out Dr Berg's channel, also Dr Sten Eckberg, both have excellent advice on prolonged fasting and what it does to your body. Best of luck to you in reaching your goal, you're so close now, you're so impressive!

It depends. Fasting as novice faster (less than 6 months experience with frequent extended fasts) felt a lot different than it does now, certainly a bit of anxiety. Now, it's just another day although some days are calmer/smoother than others.

- 🍽 Overcoming hunger during extended fasting is a real challenge that requires strategic coping mechanisms. - 🚶♂ Staying active, whether through work, exercise, or new hobbies, can distract from hunger pangs and help maintain focus on fasting goals. - 🌞 Getting sunlight and fresh air can boost mood and provide a welcome distraction from hunger. - 🏋 Incorporating light exercise, like walking or simple weightlifting, can help occupy time and improve overall health during fasting. - 🏆 Pros outweighs Cons - 💭 Remembering your reasons for fasting, including health benefits, weight loss, and increased energy, can help stay motivated in times of intense hunger. - 💧 Ice chewing, along with consuming zero-calorie beverages like black coffee or diet sodas, can aid in managing cravings and providing a different sensation to combat hunger. - 🚿 Taking a shower and reminding yourself that food will always be available can all be helpful strategies to navigate hunger during fasting, Eating window. - 💪 Discipline and dedication are crucial in facing the reality of hunger during extended fasts, but knowing others are on the same journey can provide encouragement and support.

I’ve just done my first 72 hours fast, I’m attempting to hit about 90 hours as well but it has actually been so easy considering that I’ve never had much of an appetite and I haven’t felt hungry once during my fasting…. I’m hoping I’m not too hungry after re-feed even though I’m only attempting to eat at maintenance instead of so many calories in such a short period of time. Thank you for this inspiration!
