It is good to hear that you are drawn to Orthodoxy. But a word of caution. The Philokalia is a very advanced collection of spiritual writings by tough ascetics and monks who have battled with many vices and passions and many have become saints. You might not understand (I am not saying that I do, which I do not) a concept or a word that might lead you astray or put you off completely. It would be best to start with something more down to our level. God bless you

Thank thank you all for your comments. And yes the philokia here’s a very in-depth read. I wouldn’t necessarily consider myself a newbie at least two theology I have five years of studying theology on the college level and have been preaching (independent fundamental baptist) for around 13 years. As I stated above I had never really looked into orthodoxy. We did cover some of it in college but mostly all I got from that was that it was just another Catholic whore (please excuse me I mean no offense neither do I now believe that).! I find it rather startling that much of what we consider within the Protestant denominations as Catholic or Orthodox he is so very wrong from what the actual teaching sort. I have watched many documentaries in recent months and also subscribed to many of the different orthodox theology channels or different priest or fathers as I find their views fascinating. I do understand what you were saying about the different people who wrote the book. And their personal struggles. I had recently rid of a man who struggled so much with lust that he ran naked into a thornbush. Personally I find these accounts of struggles so greatly helpful, because I am also a man of like passions that struggles and have struggled for years even though considering myself saved and living a decent Christian life. What really is appealing to me about orthodoxy is its humility and its deep sins and longing for God. Within our denomination if you listen to any preaching at all much of it comes off as extremely prideful and over the years this has become a major diss taste to me and often times has left me unsatisfied even doing it myself. Where I live there is only one Orthodox Church in the area but it is a Greek orthodox and currently I don’t really know the difference between Greek or Russian or Ukrainian I do understand there are many different splinters of churches all representing the one main church. Just pray for me on this journey I do hope that eventually I can be led to someone that I could talk to one on one about different beliefs and why certain things are done the way they are. At first I had a major fall out with the fact that orthodox do not believe in Sola Scriptura, but after hearing father trenham explain that in acts when the Jewish believers wanted the gentile believers to be circumcised, and no scripture to guide them, they had to consult the early fathers…. -which makes sense to me- Just keep me in prayer as I go along this journey KZitem is most valuable I’ve also found many podcasts and radio programs currently I listen to ancient faith radio constantly as I enjoy it’s theological discussions. I do hope and pray to take a trip to Mt Athos someday, and I do find the hestchastic lifestyle wonderful. Like I said please pray for me! Thank you.

@Llahsram Auhsoj well it doesn’t hurt to serve as something for introducing orthodoxy. The teachings of the father are important to follow as well, but to deny the holy gospel and it’s teachings along with the church and the holy fathers would be missing the mark. We need the whole of it all. We need the truth. To deny something for aid would be damaging to us. Let us explore. I also feel there’s more context to what was quoted as well.

It’s great and one I’d recommend, there are other Orthodox Bibles as well that I think are great too. I’d say having a few of these is always great and can give you plenty of insight in not the scripture and the patristic teachings. People complain the OSB isn’t full enough of patristic commentary don’t realize the undertaking it is to put together something like the OSB, it’s a great base and one that helps you understand and study the scriptures. There’s plenty of supplemental Orthodox text that can fill in any gaps that you might be in the OSB, this is why we have these supplemental text.

Please remember, your prayer and fasting (doing it as a daily rule), especially fasting, MUST be done WITHIN the Church. Are you Orthodox? Please do not try too much on your own without the guidance of a spiritual father. Trying to lead a spiritual life without the Church and without a guide can lead us into many problems and traps of the Devil. The greatest and easiest trap to fall into is “pride”. Without the Church and a guide, we can think we are making spiritual progress, yet we’re driving off the cliff.

Regarding being the first to pursue reconciliation after someone has wronged us…I believe this does not apply to people who are narcissists or evil. Such people do not, as a general rule, seek peace and harmony with others, but rather they seek to take advantage of you. Seeking reconciliation with such people would only embolden their abuse and actually is not even good for them in the long run. You’d be doing them a favor by disengaging. Doesn’t the Bible also say that God turns his face from us sometimes when we deliberately sin?

Your blessing father. I have noticed that my first experience with God's grace was when I was young and with problems ( financial, career, love etc). As I get older those problems are no longer there, and the devil uses the absence of problems to create in me a false sense of stability. The prideful, like myself, sometimes think that this stability is earned, and not given by God. Here is where pride takes me out of communion with God and I start befriending the world and sin. Your homily today was specially edifying because you emphasized the reality of carrying ones cross in a very direct way. I will us this video to practice continuous humility and thankfulness. Father, could you please make a video about Orthodox perspective on psychopathy, NPD and other abusive and exploitative personality disorders. Are these people demon possessed or witches? They all have exactly the same behavioural patterns no matter where in the world they come from. They manipulate, dominate, pathologically lie, intimidate and exploit. How does someone honour a parent or a sibling such as this, who are openly evil and psychologically abuse family members. People who grow up in such family systems end up with no sense of self due to narcissistic abuse. They are incapable of saying no due to being made to feel extremely guilty if they don’t freely give their time and money, usually to their own detriment. What is Orthodox perspective on abuse from parents, spouses and siblings? Is this God’s will for our life? Do we need to stay in relationship that psychologically, spiritually or physically harm us?

I too have experienced a lifetime of these sorts of people and live completely alone now. I read my Bible just about every day and I keep myself hidden from the world. Over the last 2 years I’ve abandoned many of my former worldly behaviors and I’m living the commands of the Bible as much as possible. Instead of focusing on the abuse, (which does take years to recover from) focus on learning your Bible and living it authentically. Jesus is coming back for His bride soon. How do we all want to stand before Him as His bride? As spotless as possible, right?! May God be with you, heal you, deliver you, and comfort you as you recover from these evil forms of abuse! One of the prayers of Orthodoxy is (paraphrase) "relieve me of many and cruel memories and of all their evil effects". As someone who grew up in the home of someone who behave(s)d like a malignant narcissist/psychopath I have walked a long road to find the heart of Christ on this matter. Love - forgiveness - love - forgive again...70 x 7 This is your Cross and it is a heavy one. Thank God that you have the opportunity to truly live out the Beattitudes. One of the most difficult things for me was to see how far I fall short of loving my enemies. When your enemies are those in your own family, the pain can be excruciating....they will reject you, revile you, scapegoat you - and expect you to love them! Take up this Cross - and you will discover, by God's great grace - that you will be able to say with joy and thanksgiving: "Father, forgive them, they know not what they do".... Limit all contact with them until you are able to approach them with love and not fear. They are entrained by demonic forces that will "win" every time you draw near to them unless you are overflowing with Christ's freedom and love. If they want to be near you, meet on neutral ground and only if necessary. You honor them by honoring God's command to love and forgive them. You will, most likely, not be able to do that for some time. I will pray with you that we both receive the daily bread of Christ's sufficient grace to endure the rough parts of this journey... Finally, instead of indulging in *any* thoughts about their behavior - I've found it helpful to recite this (I believe from Paschal liturgy?) On the recommendation of St Porphyrios to one of his spiritual children: The demons flee when they hear you recite this! And be sure to wear a cross! "We celebrate the slaying of death, the destroying of hell, the beginning of another way of life that is eternal - and leaping for joy we sing a hymn to the cause - the only blessed and most glorious God of our Fathers!" ☦️

Philippians 1:20-23 King James Version 20 According to my earnest expectation and my hope, that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but that with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ shall be magnified in my body, whether it be by life, or by death. 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain. 22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. 23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ; which is far better:

Father, I wonder does this notion of forgiving transgressions also apply to murders or those committing of great sin, those that seek to physically kill us? Should we find it in our hearts to forgive these people (assuming we yet still live and the murderer has killed before but has failed to kill us or has killed a family member/close relative)?

_A man came to St. Dionysius's cell and begged the saint to hide him from his pursuers. When St. Dionysius asked him why he was being pursued, the man told him that he had killed a man. The murderer did not know that he had killed the saint's own beloved brother Constantine. St. Dionysius was very grieved but hid the man and did not surrender him to the law. Instead he instructed him and brought him to repentance. According to local tradition, the murderer later repented and became a monk himself at that same monastery. St. Dionysius is an example to us all for his forgiveness of even the most grievous sins against us._ Our father among the saints Dionysius of Zakynthos was born in 1547 on the island of Zakynthos in the Ionian Sea. Before becoming a monk his name was Draganigos Sigouros. He was educated by priests and became fluent in Greek, Italian, and Latin. He excelled in theology, became a monk in 1568, received his first degree of ordination as a priest in 1570 as Daniel; he later became hieromonk of Zakynthos and Strofades. In 1577 he was raised to Archbishop of Aegina and Poros and after a year abdicated from this dignity and settled in Zakynthos as an abbot of a monastery. In December 17, 1622 he fell asleep in the Lord. He had asked to be buried in this monastery and his grave is still to be found in the chapel of St George; a dependent of the monastery. It has been found that his body remains intact and emits a mixed fragrance of flowers and frankincense. Therefore he is venerated, and his sainthood has been proclaimed by the Patriarch of Constantinople. His feast day is celebrated on December 17, and on August 24, the Church celebrates the transfer of his holy relics.

@@hendersonshuntinglodge1207 I am also a Traditional Catholic and I and a lot of others believe that Mr Bergoglio is an anti-Pope. We believe that Pope Benedict is still our Pope. I think Pope Benedict was forced out to make way for our now current NWO Pope.

Beautifully spoken. We are wronging God every day, yet every day, God comes to us, and forgives. In all His glory. Yet if someone wrongs us, wretched sinful people, we hesitate with forgiveness. It moved me inside, I know I will remember this message, thank you for this video. God bless

Naked, small and helpless, you now pass on to the most difficult of all human tasks: to conquer your own selfish desires. Ultimately it is just this "self-persecution" on which your warfare depends, for as long as your selfish will rules, you cannot pray to the Lord with a pure heart: Thy will be done. If you cannot get rid of your own greatness, neither can you lay yourself open for real greatness. If you cling to your own freedom, you cannot share in true freedom, where only _one_ will reigns. - Tito Colliander, Way of the Ascetics

Basically, to follow the Hamashiach is to be as the Borg. Lifeless, dull, and subject to the control of the hive mind. Perhaps if Yah and his son wanted mindless, dependent zombies they should have created them as such from the beginning.

Define "self will" either "positive" or "negative". Please. I think an "adult" person can do anything they want as long as it doesn't "hurt" another thing (animal, human, plant, environment, property). Oh by the way, define "hurt".

My old way is being denied my needs yet expected to be others weren’t expections energy work finances time on and on. Only to come to realize when you have need nobody is there, takers. Learning, healing, overwhelmed at how evil people are. Tired of grieving, crying. The devil loves us sensitive empathetic self sacrificing souls To kill steal and destroy, can’t take it anymore. Realizing I spent most of my life feeling less then only to realize I had qualities the Lord loves. I don’t know anything anymore. If you only knew Dying is the only choice we have, we can’t be like them. Resurrect us Lord to serve you for your Glory, you made us you can do all things.
