Thank you so much for mentioning the great line-6 distortion modeller! There is a personal story for me concerning this one : Some years ago i had to built up my rig totally new but i had not much money, When i had to decide, which overdrive/distortion/fuzz i should buy, there were so many great sounding boxes i had in mind but could not afford all of them. By chance i saw an ad in a music magazin where someone sold a new stompbox by line 6, which claimed for itself it could digitally reproduce a lot of the most important and significantly sounding overdrives, distortions and fuzzes in rock history for an inexpensive price. I had heard about the green line-6 delay and that The Edge and Steve Hackett used it so I called him and asked him, why the price was so low and he told me, that he couldn' t find someone who wanted to buy it because everybody he offered it obviously had the position that classical guitar distortion sounds couldn't be reproduced in acceptabke quality. Anyway, finally he accepted to sent me his dm-4 to try it out for a few days with the restricition to pay it only if i like it. What shall i say, i got this metal yellow thing finally for less them 120 € and it reliably reproduces all that legendary overdrives, fuzzes and distortions from TS-808 over Maestros and Big Muffs even to Boss Metal Zone. O.k. ...some of the classical tones are a bit nearer to the originals, some are caught not THAT similar but most of the sounds are very very close to the model. I had the chance to borrow some Originals, so i could test it one to one and i can truely confirm that the dm-4 sounds are real close to them. The Line 6 DM-4 in my opinion is one of the most underrated stompboxes on the market, that's a shame and i can't understand it. IT's a killer-sounding overdrive/fuzz/distortion-chameleon and i thank you, that you mentioned it in your video!! PLEASE TELL THIS EVERYBODY WHO NEEDS A GOOD AND VERSATILE DISTORTION!!!! Hope, my story was not boring, Greetings, Andy (from Germany)

When I saw this video it made me buy a fulltone distortion pro. I was a bit disappointed when it arrived because it had several paint chips revealing rust in several spots. The smaller 4 knobs were cracked and chipped with the white dial indicators worn away. Dirty Velcro mounts telling this pedal had spent many years on someone's pedalboard. But when I turned it on, it surprisingly worked. Every knob. And over time I grew to like the rusty old pedal. It was my second dirt pedal ever. My first was a behringer big muff clone the vintage distortion. Which actually sounds really good as well. But I don't have money for nice tube amps. So I've bought quite a few pedals to help me find a classic 60's psychedelic blues tone

Rad episode. Loooooove the od3... Got one at a pawn shop for $50 a while back, and I am always charmed by how it sounds. Smashing Pumpkins were a band that took me forever to get into. I knew their hits but never cared to venture into the albums and hear the deep cuts. Until a couple of years ago when I was working on my craft to becoming a better songwriter. I simply Googled, "Prolific Songwriters" and the first thing that popped up was a 100 list from Rolling Stone Magazine. Billy Corgan was on that list and I laughed at first but I listened, as well as read the lyrics, and after the third song I started streaming all the Pumpkins' albums. I got to see them this year for my birthday in Chicago which was just mind blowing and now they're one of my favorite bands. Side note: When's that compressor video coming our way? Don't you want my to buy the Pulp 'N' Peel, Josh? ;)

I totally agree...Pumpkins has really aged well (and they are still putting out good new stuff), and I always thought Billy was a composer where most of his contemporaries were just song writers. They have put out so much awesome deep cut material that has been buried because it didn’t fit an album concept. I saw them in Indy where they just killed it for over three hours.

Black Stone Cherry Their first self titled album. (Black Stone Cherry) I actually found the album while randomly at a friend’s house that I never usually went to and the album was on his stair case collecting dust. I think I was in 8th grade at the time and believed that finding the album was a sign from above lol. Anyways, that album and band grew and grew on me over time and just really appreciate that album a lot for my early high school days. 🤘🤘

I came to music later in life (like, early 30's) and I'm in my early 40's, so my list is a little different than most. Leonard Cohen - The Future because, well, he can't sing and the music is pretty cheesy. Now, I own all the albums, books and anthologies, and am a dedicated fan. RIP, Mr. Cohen. The Cure - Disintegration. I just didn't "get it", but my wife did. Several years later I love it, but only the full album, please. Pink Floyd - The Final Cut - honourable mention. Very tough to get into but I now play it immediately after The Wall and it just works.

Nevertheless, it was captivating so I just kept on coming back to some of the same songs on youtube, until i eventually bought their third album when it came out and I loved it to bits. I immediately went back and heard their other records and I loved it. Amazing band. All of their records are great in their own way. Check them out if you're into abrasive post-punk (think NIck Cave, and Joy Division), hardcore (go for first two records then) and stuff like the stooges

Maybe a little obscure, but Gord (Tragically Hip) Downie's Coke Machine Glow. Bought it, listened, didn't get it. Put it aside. Listened to it again a few years later and it just snapped into place. For pedals, you overlooked the EHX Hot Tubes. Ues, it's EHX, but you don't see it a lot.

Dave Webb funny you should mention Gord of The Tragically Hip. When popped up the DM4 I thought of Rob Baker, The Hip’s lead guitarist. His live drive sounds were all DM4. In fact his live board with a The Hip the last 10-15 years were the Line 6 multi pedals; DM4, DL4, and the modulation one!

GROWING PAINS ALBUM: Björk’s “Vespertine” - First I thought her voice was too brash. It felt really raw and vulnerable and her punchy delivery didn’t make sense - then when this symphony sized choir came in on the chorus of “Hidden Place” I didn’t know what the hell to think or feel! Instead of a cozy electric guitar written with the singer leading me thru a track, there was this strange vibe - this all atop beds of crackles, pops, ticks and glitchy samples. Turns out I need a little Vespertine to widen my scope a bit. Now it’s a totally special album to me as it’s one of those pivots in musical discovery we all are lucky to have experienced thru the years. Thanks Josh for the reminder of my growing pains album :) !

A record that grew on me is easily Welcome to the Black Parade by My Chemical Romance. So, picture this: It's 2006, I'm in junior high, and pop-punk/emo movements are in full swing. I hate every moment of it. Vehemently. Stuck in my ways, when the music video came out for the title track lead single, I heard it and laughed at with the same vitriolic attitudes that I gave everything else from the genre. But then the next day I kept thinking of it. And the music video came on Much Music (Canadian here- sorry), and I appreciated the guitar playing, Gerard Way's vocal range, the tempo changing, how operatic it was, and then soon enough I downloaded the album and was listening to it constantly. I think what's most important about all of this is that it proved to myself unconsciously that being so rigidly against something isn't cool and finding beauty in art, any art even if outside of your comfort zone, is important and powerful. TL;DR: I DIDN'T LIKE THING BECAUSE EMOS THEN I STOPPED BEING STUPID AND LIKED THING. CAN I BUY SOME EFFECTS PEDALS ON REVERB PLEASE?

Yea.. So what about the TC Electronics Mojomojo? It's $50 new. And it's paul Gilbert in a box... Its the main drive Paul uses, and such a tone for that price is insane

Hey Olaf! I'm not trolling you just an FYI, the T.C. Electronics mojomojo is not Paul's main drive really, he uses it as a base and stacks other drives with it to get his tones.

MojoMojo by TC Electronics. Amazing sounds for barely any money. Paul Gilbert for one has it on his board. Pretty sure John Mayer has or had one too. And I'm sure many others :)

Album that grew on me : "The Getaway" by Red Hot Chili Peppers. Needs multiple listening. Now I'm a fan of the band and know all of their album pretty well, even the first ones. But...when I heard it for the first time I wasn't convinced at all. Third time I heard it was on a beautiful summer day and suddenly it all made sense. The sound is fairly different (produced by Danger Mouse instead of Rick Rubin) but more natural...less compressed. It felt like I could hear Chad's drums real sound for the first time without everything being in your face. 3 key tracks : "Death of a Samurai", "The Getaway" (which should've been a single) and "Goodbye Angel". Now we all love Frusciante and we're excited he's back but Josh Klinghoffer is a f*cking good musician and has some great guitaristic moments on "The Getaway".

I just bought an Angry Driver at a garage sale on Friday. $70.00 with box! So now I own a JHS pedal. Well, half of a JHS pedal.

The artist that got me was Bob Dylan. Hated the hokey stuff my mom would play, and his voice was like a parody to me. Then I heard Blood on the Tracks. Yup. That's the one.

I don't use overdrive, fuzz distortion But I do own a Boss OS-2 that works well and can be found for $30 used all over the internet in new condition. The OS-2 is one of the pedals that are used to shame users, by players that paid $200 to $400 for an overdrive, when it is actually a great pedal at a bargain price. $99 new with 4 knobs to control the sound you desire. "Level, Tone, Drive and Color."

I own one and I love it! I also have a JHS Double Barrel, but the OS2 + DB is a killer combination!! I found a great tone with those two pedals.

Funeral - Arcade Fire, Blonde - Frank Ocean, Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Innerspeaker - Tame Impala, 808 and Heartbreak - Kanye West, Mezmerize - System of a Down. All of these albums I thought were really bad when I first heard them but now are some of my favourites. I think sometimes if it takes a while to get into an album its usually because there is something that you are not used to in the sound and when you 'get it' it really resonates.

Radiohead "OK Computer" I know, I know.... Everyone I know used to tell me they thought I would love it, but I avoided it (and them) for years.... When I finally caved I realized they were right...
