Warmup sets really do help. It's not just about blood flow, it also primes your CNS and helps establish mind-muscle connection, which will enhance the working set.
@frysebox1
6 жыл бұрын
I always start with an empty barbell, except for the deadlifts, then continue to add plates (10, 15, 20kg plates depending on the exercise and target weight) to whatever your working set weight is, and perform at least 1-5 reps on every intermediate stage. A deadlift session with 180kg working weight would look like this: 60kg (two 20kg's), 100kg (four 20kg's), 140kg (six 20kg's), and then from there either go directly to 180kg for x amount of reps for y sets, or go for a single or double at 160-170kg or something just to test the waters and feel out your form that day. I don't count these sets as part of the total working sets. As someone else said, this primes your CNS and muscle mind connection which will help a lot on the working sets especially if you're trying to push PRs that day, in addition to that if you feel that anything is off you'll discover it during the warmup and not at full weight which lowers the risk/severity of injury by a large margin... It's absolutely work the 2-3 extra minutes it takes in the long run in stead of just slapping all the weight on the bar and hoping for the best. Apart from this I just do some dynamic stretching, not old and seasoned/damaged enough to bother with all the fancy foam rolling stuff yet 8)

One thing that I am fascinated with his OHP is the use of deltoids. When most lift, they lean back and use their back to be able to assist with some of the weight. Thrall, on the other hand, makes a consistent use of his shoulders by being able to push the weight back over his head rather than be leaning back to catch the weight. Awesome.
