It’s been 20 yrs since I’ve done this. We used to go to a spot near San Jose Island after the 1000 every year 92-2003. That was in a 72 K5Blazer with a Best Top top with a rack 92-97. Took a flat bottomed aluminum boat and a trolling motor to make sure I could get back against the current. Absolutely amazing place. 98-03 was in a 95 Ram 1500 4x4. We were really primitive and had very few extras in those days. No market like today.

Rtts are sick until you have to fall sleep. You’re a wind sail up there 6 ft in the air. Prepare for the worst hope for the best. Make sure you have an air bnb or hotel reso so if its windy you can sleep indoors!

Maybe the flip style tents, but the Alucab sheds wind off pretty easy. The night we found the scorpions we had high winds, I just turned the nose into the wind and wasn't bothered again by it all night long. I cant speak for everyone else though.

Oooorrr one could just get an FSR Evo2. You're able to clamshell one side or the other into the wind so that it shears up and over. Even in 50+mph winds, it barely moves. Spent many a night in the Rockies using this wonderful feature 😊

Awesome adventure trip! Great video work. Nice to see the Grand Canyon too. I'm Dutch and been there late Autumn 2016. Way less crowed at our visit. Would love to have an FJ-Cruiser. But really expensive to drive overhere with taxes, fuel prices etc. Had a FJ40 way way back. Keep on discovering & having fun!

My wife has eveything planned not sure of all the sights we will see yet, hoping to get some trail time in on some passes but they will be closed I've heard. @@FauxHawkJosh not really unfortunately. Not only do trails get snow packed in Colorado, but gated up. Honestly though if it’s your first time here, just drive up some mountain passes and that alone will blow you away.

Sure looks like a fun trip but for your guys next trip to Baja, don’t stop either at San Felipe or Bahia de Los Angeles, go past San Felipe and in to Bahia de San luis Gonzaga its more secluded and clean and instead of stoping in bahia de los angeles keep driving south to mulege and bahia Concepcion the beaches there are for sure some of the most beautiful you'll see in either baja norte or baja sur

This was before I knew about those kits, or else I would have. I’m also pretty close to a new vehicle, so I’m trying to get by with what I have and save every mod dollar I have. But if another rack gives out, I will go that route for sure.

@@IndependenceOverland Thinking about one for my fj. Never planned to build it too much but here we are haha. Did you pull your rack out through the front? Looks like a good option just removing the two front diff bolts. I plan to cut the stock factory bolts and just get new hardware.

In short, your narration made me feel the same way his does when hes speaking of his love and respect for nature, adventure and good company. Went almost same route. All of us were X Army Rangers. Meant cartel. We back off behind a rock ridge. We ended up in a firefight with our families. Spent 500 rounds of ammo. We had night vision that saved us. We took down dozens. That were complete idiots. All our fire power saved our families! Hidden where border corrupt police could not find. We left Mexico with no problem man. They new we were bad ass! Do not go there again. Not worth it. You may not mine a firefight but not with your family. 🇺🇸🇺🇸😎 Fort Brag “Now and Forever”!

Absolutely not. You will be arrested and they will find it when you drive through the vehicle x-ray.
