After getting top quality hand gun training from my sweetheart 30+ years ago, he acknowledged the technical proficiency that I gained AND that I didn't have the NECESSARY mind set to prevent an assailant from using my own weapon against me. Good call! I have deterred threats by saying "my revolver" or "cute little 38" Suffice it to say that there will be mortal wounds B4 that baby gets pried away from me. I remember the progression of developing muscle memory & several times a day I just drop & load the empty mag and rack & release the slide. Brand new never had a live round in it yet. Still a loaded gun!

Speaking from experience of multiple break ins, this advice is on the money. Best thing I bought was a wireless alarm which was so quick and easy to install and has paid for itself several times. I'm all for gun ownership but they are useless if you're sound asleep while someone guts your house or outbuildings in the dead of night. Also don't underestimate what can be broken into. Better locks, frames, hinges, safes are an investment.

Replace the screws with longer and sturdier ones. Get heavy-duty deadbolt. Add a kick-plate. Bars on the first floor windows. A sign that says you have an alarm system and maybe an actual security system to go with it. Don't advertise your political opinions, professional/personal affiliations, or personal possessions in your yard or on your truck. Bam! I wish I still had my watch cat,he had a reasonably long life. He would look in the direction of the person outside on the property, and growl loud enough to get my attention. There were troublemakers in the neighborhood. They always wondered how I knew they were outside. He never made enough noise for them to hear. He slept with me,and was nice to sleep with. Asleep he would come up and growl in my ear to wake me. I didn't train him. I have no idea how he picked that up,but he was a blessing. If it was up to me he would have lived 40 years or so.

I have a little hearing loss, but can easily see when he hears something, and he does not bark often, but when he does, I know someone or something is approaching. Good boy!!!!! Great dog. In your first monologue you were speaking about landscape security. You can also use certain trees to stop vehicles, change the pitch of the ground to high-center vehicles, and place certain soil / compounds to bog down vehicles and foot traffic. All these, and other items, can be used in combination to channel traffic into a directed area. Technology should be used as a force multiplier, while simple security measures are best.

Good morning Bear you sound a little intense today, hopefully it will smooth out for you. A large number of home invasion robberies and the assaults happen when people on Rural properties are going about their daily business and have left their front door or back door unlocked then somebody just walks in and surprises them. First level of threat protection lock the locks you do have even when you're home doing what ever you do. Make sure you have functional locks on every opening in to your house. Build security from there. Think about a very strong metal gate that closes against strong metal posts not between them on your drive way you may never use it, but if you need it has to be able to stop a vehicle well away from your house.

I've lived all around the world and one thing holds true, bad guys look for the easy target. The first thing I would tell my guys before we left was not to be a target. Blend into your surroundings and don't bring attention to yourself. Does not matter if you are on vacation or in a high stress or combat situation, keep your cool, pay attention to your surroundings and NEVER be an easy target. Sometimes just paying attention to what is going on around you is enough to discourage a bad guy.

He asked me for directions and when I pulled them up on my phone, he started masturbating. I turned on my phone flashlight and got the make, model, amd plate number while he was yelling "don't take a picture of me!" over and over before I called the cops (who were useless, said it wasn't a sex crime until I told them the story 3 times and then said "well what if it was his girlfriend'a car or something? Not worth it"). Just a flashlight, a phone, and confidence can scare most "bad guys" off because most of them are damn cowards
