@@DaveThePsycho probably alot of interest after the Olympics. I've kind of always wanted to though. Been in Japan once, and a very big fan of Japan in general 😊 but man it's a tough language to learn, maybe VR is a good platform.

I remember I wanted to learn it as well when I was still in high school watching anime and stuff, after few weeks of courses I was like "ye I'll pass thanks tho". This app while it provides cool oral interactions and some vocabulary, it's nowhere near the actual language classes, it's mostly for practicing what you already know about the language.

I don't like it, not enough variety and even less than this in the Swedish version. I didn't get a grocery shop in Swedish.

Can you actually learn a language in this? Or is it just a few scenes of "hello. How are you" etc etc, basic limited scenes with no real replayability?
@DaveThePsycho

Basically that, it's to practice whatever you already know about grammar and language itself. Should be good to check your oral skills but nothing really besides that.

Hi. I wonder in the beginning, can you be Polish who wants to learn Chinese? So it will teach you in our native language. So every language is taught in every language. I haven´t seen anyone do this in reviews. It´s allways english who wants to learn another language. Need to know before I buy it for my kids. Thanks.
@DaveThePsycho
3 жыл бұрын
Yeah basically you have two categories to choose the language from: the one native and the other that you wanna learn, doesn't matter the order nor combination, whatever's available it's gonna translate every text appearing for you. Also you can always refund an application if you won't find it interesting 😅

Thanks for your answer. I don´t dare to buy games cos´ in Finland it says when u r conforming the purchase, that it is not refundable. I don´t know why. Mark won´t answer me if I ask him. He is not my friend in Facebook.

Lol kinda weird, I'd always ask Oculus Support for the explanation but then again, they aren't very helpful either most of the time. Though maybe if you'd check out with PayPal instead of credit card, that might work better since it's not tied to the specific country's guidelines.

Is it the same conversation every time in the specific scenario? Any variation running through the same scenario?
@DaveThePsycho
3 жыл бұрын
That's a very good question, I didn't even think about it. I looked up different version of the same app like from 3 years ago and the dialogue comparing to mine was exactly the same, only character models changed which is interesting. I guess the "varation" could be when you answer negatively like in the train ticket sequence say you didn't buy it, then the conductor will say something different, though the main dialogue branch will still continue in the same manner.

Mondly is absolutely terrible. Do not waste your time or money with it. Words you pronounce correctly for months suddenly are wrong, and you practically have to scream at the app to get it to hear you properly.

Nowadays there are better languages apps for sure, Mondly was essentially a precursor but nothing to invest in anymore.

But even if on those simple examples it makes mistakes then I don't think in the long run learning from that app will be good so, sucks but nowadays there are other way better language systems out on the store.
