The "military" costume at the end was a cangaceiro outfit. They were nomadic bandits that roamed the Northeast arid interior (known as "sertão") in the late 19th and early 20th century. This region of Brazil is the most impoverished one, and in a form of "social banditry" against the government, many men and women decided to become cangaceiros, so outlaws. Today, they are most known in a good light, like Robin Hood kind of bandits, becoming part of the Northeast folklore and a symbol of cultural identity, despite the fact that they indeed pillaged cities back then and were feared among people. The most famous cangaceiro was Lampião, the mannequin was representing him, since you could see by the blind eye and glasses. The woman by his side represents Maria Bonita, his partner. They were a couple like Bonnie and Clyde.

once, some "cangaceiros" got paid by the gov to fight a rebel army know as the "coluna prestes". they took the money and, of course, they didn´t do the job. the gov wasn´t amused, but could do little, being the "sertão" a very harsh and big place.

LOTS of history in those characters!

That's correct! LAMPIÃO (male) and MARIA BONITA (female) were part of a group of "cangaceiros" (bandits). He was the leader, compared sometimes to Pancho Villa. They were a sort of Bonnie and Clyde of the Sertão (Brazilian "outback"). LOL en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lampião. Porto de Galinhas has long since become a terrible place to visit. Sellers have crowded the beach and charge an absurd amount just for the tourist to sit down and, in addition, they still demand a minimum consumption value. Apart from the exaggerated flow of people to such a small city and beach strip, a city with precarious infrastructure and high crime rates in the region. For me there is nothing a beach needs to have, like feeling immersed in the coastal nature and tranquility, there you find the opposite of that.

I believe that the biggest problem is arriving and staying right in front of the main entrance to Porto de Galinhas. Because if you walk towards Praia de Maracaípe, for example, everything becomes calmer. And anyone arrives and sits on the sand. For the front really is boring. The main issue is to get to know the general environment well first. After all, the beaches of the Northeast are very interconnected. Just walk a little and you will have more peaceful places. Let it serve as a tip. In addition to being in the high season and during the vacation period, close to Carnival, so even those of us who live in Recife don't go. Well, it gets crowded. But it is possible, yes, to have some peace of mind there. Just walk a little. Or if you really want peace, better stay in Carneiros and preferably on weekdays.

16:42 They're called Cangaceiros, groups of bandits that would walk around the caatinga (the arid land in the country side of Pernambuco and other northeastern states) pillaging cities and doing mercenary work during the first decades of the 20th century They're kind of controversial, because they did bad stuff but would also represent the uprising of the people against the political and social status quo that would keep poor people under control by violence from the rich farmers. The statues represent Lampião, leader of the biggest and most representative group of Cangaceiros, and his wife Maria Bonita. Both of them snd their attire are big symbols of the northeastern culture.

16:40 They are Lampião and Maria Bonita, two of the most famous cangaceiros, social bandits of Northeast Brazil in the late 19th and early 20th centuries who had some level of support from the poorest population and as Wikipidia says: often behaved well to the poorer sections of society performing acts of charity, buying goods for higher than usual prices from small shopkeepers and giving free parties ("bailes"). In contrast, the wealthy were robbed, targeted for forced monetary contributions (extortion) and were often kidnapped and held to ransom

Businesses can not loot the sandline like that in Rio. People are free to stretch their towels cause the restaurants do not occupy the sand. Beaches are not private, by law, the cities must regulate them. They are all federal property!

Rio city? Yeah! Rio state? No! Trindade is a hell, and trindade is so dirty, no public toilet, we need to see people pooping behind the trees and rivers. 😔 Rio is beautiful, but should take care more of its nature

Porto de Galinhas was an incredible place 10 or 15 years ago. Now it's one of the most annoying places on earth.
