The music is J.S. Bach's BWV 992 Capriccio sopra la lontananza del suo fratello dilettissimo
The harpsichord was designed and built by our late colleague, Kevin Spindler. It is a copy of a 17th-Century Flemish single-manual harpsichord in the Yale Collection of Musical Instruments. The original antique was made by Andreas Ruckers in Antwerp and it is dated 1640 and it retains its original range.
Kevin Spindler passed away in June 2022. He had worked at Zuckermann Harpsichords for 15 years during which time he loved to research antique harpsichords and create working drawings to build them. Working after hours in the late 1980s, Kevin built his "Yale Flemish" copy for a coworker and friend, Mary Hard, who was leaving Zuckermann after working for several years in the paint room. Kevin built the case and brought the instrument to playing condition Mary also passed away recently. We received the harpsichord in unlaying condition. Apparently Mary had removed the strings to begin the decoration but she never finished the work and the harpsichord was stored for 20 years. The decoration was finished by Tatyana Nivina and the music action work is by Zhenghi Adam Hou.
Owen Cummings is the 2023 Zuckermann intern and he took it upon himself to create this demonstration video.
