I'm a retired dialysis nurse and we did have a patient whose kidney failure was caused by oxalates. The doctor told him it was permanent but he did his own research and went on a low oxalate diet. He regained enough kidney function to come off dialysis. I don't know what his current status is but that was a powerful example of someone taking control of their own health with diet instead of blindly following traditional medical advice.

I, am shooketh. My mother raised me on a vegetarian diet. In high school I was addicted to junk food. My young adult life I ate a lot of junk food and a lot of veggies. By 23 I was diagnosed with hypothyroid and my hormones were all over the place. So I went vegan to heal my thyroid. The amount of spinach, kale, nuts and broccoli I consumed was ungodly. I was convinced that if I piled spinach on my sandwich, in soup and in my smoothies I would heal. I then got pregnant and that's when my health really went down hill. I can say I never remember feeling good or having energy. I have always had oxalates pouring out of my skin, my arms and legs are red and purple from the scaring. This explains so much. Both of my children were born with issues. While pregnant I was on a high oxalate diet. The past year my body began to ache horribly, awful fatigue, headaches, restless legs, pain in my bladder, cramping all month long, horrible mood swings, peeing every 30 min, lump in my throat (doctors didn't find anything), lump on my thyroid, insomnia. I am 30 now and I went carnivore. I know I am detoxing so I go in and out of feeling miserable but many of my symptoms vanished within a week. Before carnivore I went strictly meat and veggies...nothing got better, I couldn't lose weight. On carnivore I have lost 25lbs, my insomnia, frequent peeing, constipation, mood swings, dry skin, cramping and painful bladder VANISHED. Sure, I miss my salad and dark chocolate but knowing that these high oxalate foods were the source my pain makes it pretty damn easy to say no. So thankful for the animals!

Such a great interview. I've followed Sally Norton for over 4yrs now. I almost fell off my chair at 65yo when I was introduced to her in a women's group, after learning about the Carnivore diet. And, right around my 3yr mark of eating Carnivore, my inhalant allergies of 48yrs just disappeared! I am convinced it was all oxalate related, because right around that time I had a second oxalate dumping weekend, but this time from my lungs. Once on the other side of that, I felt amazing! My gosh, looking back, it's a wonder I didn't kill myself. For a decade, every morning I made a protein blender shake that I stuffed with greens, my favorite being Swiss Chard and Dandelion greens, on top of the hemp/pea protein powder and all the other high oxalate things I was adding to it. Then the nut mixes, the almond butter we made, sweet potatoes we thought were better than white potatoes. Just wow. Thank God for Sally! I couldn't wait to get her book, which now has tons of things underlined and tabs for quick reference.

Hi Audrey, I know your post was from 7 months ago but hope you will respond. I went carnivore 11 mos ago and I’m now Oxalate dumping. Terrible bladder issues and even though my asthma and allergies have improved tremendously I’m now having some mucas and lung issues again. I’m wondering what your lung symptoms were when you were Ox dumping and how did you improve it please??
@audreygregis8721
4 ай бұрын
@@ginaseery5292 Hi! I assume my lung thing was oxalate dumping, because unless we can see inside, we really don't know. It happened not long after my allergies disappeared. I have no idea why it took me 3yrs, although I had gone dairy free for 6mos. But, Sally has said the same thing...we just don't know. I just listened to a really good interview recently with Sally on the "5 Minute Body" YT channel....and she said she met someone who didn't have dumping for 6yrs eating Carnivore! But, I have heard Sally say mucus can be caused by oxalates. Our body gets rid of oxalates so many ways...urine, feces, skin, eyes, saliva, mucus...and I'm sure I'm missing some. And Sally has talked about herself having cloudy urine. The thing is, I can't say I've had cloudy urine, BUT we all are different, so we ALL can, and will, dump differently. If I'm dumping, it seems to hit always hit at midnight....when the body is repairing while we sleep. And then I'll be up peeing every 2hrs.😅 I don't even have to look at the clock. And I do not get frustrated, because I am SO glad I'm peeing them out, rather than having kidney stones!!! What I'm doing now is buying organic lemon juice in a glass bottle, rather than trying to keep lemons in my frig. Putting 1Tbsp in each section of a couple ice cube trays, figuring 1Tbsp is half a lemon. I store the cubes in a couple qt. freezer bags. At least once a day, probably 90% of the time, I add 1-2 cubes in my insulated water cup. It holds about 24oz. So, I'm not drinking lemon water all the time, but I am when I'm dumping! Lemons dissolve oxalates. I know that firsthand, because when I feel a pointy thing on the outside of my gum where I have a crown, I will hold a sip of lemon water, as long as I can, on that side of my mouth, swallow, then take another sip, and do the same for a while....and within an hour, that pointy thing is gone. Is this scientific proof? Nope, but it's working for me! Haven't dumped in a while...knock on wood. Sooo, I would do what Sally suggests...get some low oxalate foods in your diet, to slow up the dumping, hopefully. Do you have Sally's book, Toxic Superfoods? Or have you been to her website.....sallyknorton.com. She has a pdf file for recipes she sells, that has quite a few low oxalate recipes. She also just published her Data Companion book, which just hit my mailbox yesterday! If it's easier, and you are on FB, I can be found under the same name by my pic.😊

I have a SEVERE intolerance to salicylates and Oxalates. So anyone out there thinking your crazy thinking veggies make you sick…YOU ARE NOT CRAZY. Vegetables and fruits for me cause Heavy Peripheral Neuropathy. Paralyzation, Tremors, involuntary movements, muscle weakness, rashes, stomach and bowel inflammation, tinnitus. After seeing a neurologist who couldn’t figure it out…I ate a bowl of blueberries and became unable to walk, my legs would not respond and became unable to hold my weight. I then began my journey into how food could effect our nervous system. After reading several natural path articles I went on a low salicylate/oxalate diet. Within 2-3 weeks I had improved by 75%. I am now trying Carnivore to see if I can get to 100%. Now…with that said. I do not tolerate zero carbs well at all, it causes extreme fatigue due to an extreme irregular heartbeat. No amount of supplements seems to correct it. SO. I can still seem to tolerate pears and papaya. So when I have a few days of strict carnivore I throw in a couple of pears or papaya. I just started this experiment so, nothing to report yet on healing…wish me luck, and remember, you’re not crazy (vegetarians are lol)

Sally's book Toxic Superfoods sold out here in the UK in 48 hours and Amazon had to suspend new orders until the publisher could restock. The low-oxalate protocol has transformed people's lives here, as in so many parts of the world. I myself was passed from one doctor to another for 50 years until I found this. Now I have days, finally, when I feel really, really well, free of the constant anxieties that used make me feel like life was something to be got through, not something to be relished. That said, the oxalate dumping process is not trivial and requires knowledgeable handling, which is all spelled out in her book.

I have been carnivore now for 3 weeks. I had a tremendous amount of inflammation in my body. Especially in my hips and left knee. So much so I have had to use crutches for the last year because I cannot wait bear. I swim 5 to 7 days a week. I do PT excercises at home every. Every morning I would wake up and I could barely move. every joint in my body was stiff and hurt. I have eaten what I thought was a very healthy low carb low sugar nothing processed diet for along time. Doing everything I can to get this inflammation down. What has changed? My inflammation to date is over fifty percent down. still using crutches but also using walking sticks for shorter distances. my legs are feeling stronger. I had floaters in my left and right eyes. Went to the eye doctor 2 day to get my eyes Checked the floater in my left eye is gone. Since I was a little kid I have had allergies to metals except gold and silver When I was yonger I had my Ears pierced they put a metal backing on the post and my ears got terribly infected. I have a keyless car key fob.That I clip to my pants and need to Put a tissue between my skin and the metal clips so I don't itch and break out in a rash. I forgot to do that a few days ago and noticed at the end of the day that I had no irritating iching rash from the metal touching my skin all day. I have done that several more times testing it and still no irritation from the metal. I started recording my sleep because I noticed I was waking up sometimes not breathing and Found out that I snore, lol! About 4 days ago noticed some night no Snoring other nights maybe 5% of the night I would snore . I have alot more energy. I have never ever seen such quick results on the carnivore diet. The inflammation I was definitely hoping there would be a change, but I never expected the metal allergies the eye floaters To improve just thought I would be living with that for the rest of my life.That was a nice surprise and a validation that this diet heals. I still am learning through this process and I'm excited and so hopeful. I never know what's going to happen next. If you're reading this comment and if it's something that helps to inspire you to help you with whatever it is that you are trying to heal from. Try it! As makhaila peterson says try it for at least 6 weeks. it's not going to hurt you. It's only going to help. A year after I decided to go off keto and play around with a semi-standard diet again, I got a saliva stone that blew up my saliva duct like a balloon. After a couple of weeks it burst and basically fixed itself. But that's when it dawned on me that my recently more active bladder - especially at night - may not just be induced by midnight wakings because of my toddler son, but rather because of a kidney stone starting to move. It took basically half a year for my kidney to clean out the sand that had built up. Been problem free since then. My doctor said "You must be a stone maker! The CT didn't show anything, so it might have cleared out." Alright, I'm a stone maker, so how do I make the stone? This was around the same time I started watching your videos and was researching my next diet plans ans my future lifestyle. Loe and behold, oxalates was to blame, not me! And if you don't eat dairy, oxalates won't bind to calcium before being absorbed. Good to know. But what had I done? I had been on a high nut/high almond keto diet for two years, eating probably the equivalent of two-three handfuls of almonds every day, because I loved it and because I used it in all my cooking and baking. Some spinach too, and some tumeric, all of it. And I'm lactose intolerant, so I only sparingly ate some cheese and lactose free yogurt. For milks I stuck with ... you guessed it, almond milk. Well, two years of a high oxalate diet and less than a year of a medium oxalate diet I got kidney stones and might be at risk for making more. That was just further motivation for my next diet chapter. An animal based diet made more and more sense on more and more levels, day by day.

Both my sons are allergic to nuts, peanuts, and especially almonds and walnuts. My daughter has underlying food intolerances to almost everything, but as a teenager, she refuses to try an elimination diet despite constant headaches and bodily pains. She avoids meat the very thing that could help her feel better. Meanwhile, the youngest son avoids veggies and opts for beef sausages that are free from seeds and such. Famous heart surgeon out of Loma Linda, Dr. Gundry, tells us lectins are killing us (tomatoes, green peppers, potatoes, certain berries, grains and beans of all kinds, dairy, and even highly touted spices like curry and cayenne pepper). Gundry sings this song of his so often I affectionately refer to him as the "Lectin Loon." Dr. Paul and his guest tell us that Oxalates are ruining your health, which includes various greens, more fruits, beans, grains. So these experts make the circuit, write books, all out of their great love for humanity (or desire to extend a career) and for the powerful truth they have almost single-handedly uncovered (or at least are the only ones with the courage to tell the rest of humanity how stupid they are for doing so many stupid things). Who would have known that "eating" was such a treacherous journey if it were not for these pioneers of good-will. I don't mean to rag on these individuals who put out these messages (after all, I don't know them or their motives); although, I think they would get some sense that the "trouble with this" "or that" or "this will also kill you" videos and books would start to seem overused even to them too. I am just frustrated with what society and social media has become and how it requires me to become a scientist to effectively wade through all the warnings and "facts" and "truth" I am being told that I need to save my life or at least stop killing myself. Which I will do once I finish my advanced training in mechanics, plumbing, human relationships, world economics, the Fed, the dollar, and the next subject that is guaranteed to ruin my life when I have the misfortune to read about it.

Hello Rob, Yes, I concur! You summed it up. All this attack on food and then touted remedies for subsequent sensitivities to food. I don't remember my Mom and Dad's generation experiencing so many allergies, gut distress or fatigue. And there are so many overlaps in each "Saviour" diet. I think maybe they are all missing the big elephant in the room. Maybe all this is caused by the horrendous use of glysophate in this country?? Europe has banned it. Glysophate causes leaky gut and is used on (wheat), in (GMO), e.g. corn, soy, and on the soil when growing many vegetables and grains. Then the animals eat the grains and so we are told we must eat grass fed meat. $$$ While avoiding some things for a time may help people, (I am gluten sensitive, so Gfree) I can hardly believe that the food God provides for us is the culprit, but most likely it is what is added to our food stuffs. (poisons) Sooo, it would make sense that ditching veggies and only eating meat would eliminate most of the Glysophate and other poisons and allow healing to take place. Maybe only eating organic is the best way to go to avoid poison and malnutrition. Yeah, not cheap but can grow a lot of vegs yourself. Ever wonder why the powers to be want us now to get rid of meat and eat bugs? Meat is one of the most nutrionally dense foods, but we all still need a well balanced diet for health, as God intended. Those same powers want us weak, sick and worried. WHAT CAN I EAT?? THAT can be a huge worry and stress trying to accommodate and cook with SO many restrictions. And they all say we MUST reduce our STRESS. 🙄 Go figure! Just do your best for what you think helps you. Eat organic to your budget and survive as best we can. We all will eventually die. Prayers are with you all!

I eat safe nuts, casien A2 cheese, coconut milk, keto breads (I'm going to make lectin free bread with sorghum and millet flour), avoid wheat, corn, soy, rice beans, sugar, all nightshade vegetables. Plenty of olive, avocado and MCT oils in my cooking, a shot of olive oil every day. The results? I've lost 40 lbs in 3 months, wearing my high school jeans at 62! Feel great, and my fiancée and some friends have adopted it as well after seeing my results. This info compliments that information and complicates it as well.

I do read Dr. Berg, most people don't read enough of what he advocates. My mother loved spinach and rhubarb since childhood, when she passed her fingers were so knurled as to be useless. The cooking of those two vegs causes the calcium to combine with the oxalates and that is were the very painful kidney stones come from. What Berg does say is to do is drink the juice of 2 or more lemons or limes CITRIC ACID dissolves the calcium oxalates, its simple chemistry. Berg sells his electrolyte powder containing magnesium citrate and potassium citrate and calcium lactate and some pink Himalayan salt. ALL my symptoms immediately left. Berg is good Gundry is a narcissist, but you might do better with Dr KenDBerryMD, I'm looking at one of his vids in the line up.

I’m not sure what to do. I started a whole-food, clean keto diet six years ago to reverse my insulin resistance and T2D. It worked really well, and I managed to put my A1C into a normal range and felt fantastic. Recently I had a kidney stone, and my go-to breakfast during the week is almond butter with hemp seeds, sunflower seeds and walnuts. Kind of a “keto-version” of a musli, if you will. It helps to keep me satiated throughout the morning as my next meal is dinner. After listening, I know that I am eating way too many oxalates, but I don't want to eat meat in the morning, and there is not much I can eat if I‘m not having anything from a package or that will not raise my blood glucose. I do have eggs on the weekends. The only thing that I can think of doing would be to reduce it to one meal a day, dinner with low oxalate choices.

@HammyGirl999

It may reduce disease risk, if you grow up with all of the Mediterranean lifestyle factors. It does not reverse damage from a Western Lifestyle. For that we must restore insulin sensitivity. To do that requires some combination of a low or very low carb diet, fasting and/or intermittent fasting, and exercise as possible. All meat diets in indigenous people from the Masai to Eskimo outperform Mediterranean diets for both prevention and remediation. Keep researching if you please. My wife and I did the keto diet. Spinach. Kale. Nut-EVERYTHING!!! My wife went to her physical and her creatine was through the roof. The doctor almost called an ambulance. We had to take her to specialists and do all kinds of tests. At first she was diagnosed with a genetic problem and we were told to expect continued loss of kidney function and to expect dialysis at some point. Fortunately, it was not a genetic problem. It was the Oxalates. We got her off all of that. She did not regain kidney function per se, but the high oxalates made her loss of kidney function look worse that what it was. Even so, she did permanently lose kidney function. We were just lucky to catch it in time. Lastly, I am not telling anyone to not do keto. I do keto. My wife even does it too when the meal does not have oxalates. All I am saying is get your blood checked every six months no matter what diet you’re on and be flexible to switch gears if your chose diet does not work for your body.

@Longjohnsilver58

@@sabbathd1 It is the standard annual physical exam test. It is called a Comprehensive Metabolic Panel. One of the things it tests for is Creatinine. the normal range is .76 to 1.27. Anything over 6 is dangerous and indicates severe kidney disease. My wife was over the upper range. Another indicator is a personal or family history of kidney stones. This indicates your body does not handle oxalates well. The oxalates were what caused the creatinine to dangerously spike. My wife has never had a kidney stone so we had no reason to consult a kidney specialist before this happened. Also, everyone should get an annual physical including young people. That way the doctor can look back on your personal history if a problem arises. This will tell the doctor if you normally run high in a given category and whether it is cause for alarm or not.

Everybody wants truth & everybody wants to grow. One thing in my journey of diet & fitness, a lot of humanity is not interested in growth or truth. Truth can be incredibly inconvenient. We rather defend our positions. We rather stand with what we know, what were told as kids. If you stay curious and continue to grow and you seek truth there is a promise that truth will find you but you have to keep an open mind and continually upgrade your systems of how you see the world and that’s tough. That’s tough for a lot of people because it begins to challenge their identity. And identity is something that’s very tricky for us because we don’t usually want to give it up that quickly.

I padded my body with oxalated through 8 years of vegan and 5 years of paleo and started suffereing form arthritis and other issues. Going strictly carnivore offered a releaf. I did not experience symptoms of oxalate dumping on carnivore untill I started adding fruit. For some reason it worked like a trigger for exess dumping and some episodes were very taxing and could easily land me in ER. I tried managing them with low oxalate intake, such as taking a cup of tea, like Sally suggests, but it only aggravated my condition. So I am back to zero oxalates (=100% carnivore) and I feel fine as long as I take supplements that Sally suggests in her book (Mag+Cal+Potassium in citrate forms, B1, B6, MSM) and having daily epsom salt baths. I am careful of not taxing my liver with sugars and alcohol and not exceeding C intake beyong the old good RDA of 70 mg. I wish y'all would have talked about how calcium and magnesium can help reduce oxalate absorption and what mcg of both can help people who choose to eat oxalate rich foods. They briefly talk about calcium, but don't really give details :(

I believe they talk about this more in a previous interview, if that helps.

I believe Sally also goes into this in her book. However, my hunch is that how much oxalate you as an individual absorb versus excrete, depends on a lot of things, like the bioavailability of the oxalate in the food you eat, how much of it you eat, and the level of inflammation in your body. In other words, you mileage may vary.

Yip, we have great beef and sheep in New Zealand! Growing up in the 80s, even as a child I remember a few things -1. Look after our grazing grass for the cows otherwise they get sad and 2. Don't eat the "top bits" on the rhubarb and beets 😁 Mum said it was poisonous, just like her cleaning products - consequently I told all my friends to stay away from the rhubarb in the garden 🤣 How easily we forget!

I’m so grateful for this podcast. I’m addicted to chocolate and along with the lead and cadmium that the consumer report revealed in 2022 , oxalates are one more reason to give up on it!!! Thank you for opening my eyes and saving my health.

This is a great 👍🏼 video showing Balance in what you eat & how much of anything to detoxify from Oxacolates etc. I ordered ur book Sally. Thank U 🙏🏻 both. I’m interested in the meat 🥩 carb diet also cause I need to figure out why I’m still not doing as well as I like. Guess a combination of carbs & no oxcalotes 🤔👍🏼

How does this affect pets? Home-cooked meals typically include spinach and sweet potatoes or kale...tumeric or ginger.

My sister fed her dogs sweet potatoes regularly (not knowing the damage they do) and lost them both to very similar circumstances as they aged. She was experiencing similar symptoms, along with all the other symptoms many of us have.

I don't know why I found it funny when Dr. Norton says, "Potato offering," but she's so right, and I never noticed it until now. 😂

What about coconuts? They’re low in oxalates and they seem to have great fats.

We’re all doing types of diets for our own reasons. Diagnosed with Bulging Discs and arthritis in my tailbone. I can’t sit down normally. My inflammation is chronic and debilitating. I now have extreme body neuropathy pain and swelling legs and feet. In one year I’ve lost my life and can’t feel any normalcy. So I’m trying meats w minimal fruits/tropical. Keiffer etc.. All in hopes I’ll regain strength and get pain relief. Everyone I watch has a varied opinion about which foods help. I can’t tolerate NSAIDs anymore. HELP

It’s been six months since you made this comment about trying carnivore/fruit diet. I am wondering if your neurological symptoms have improved? I was having extreme neurological problems (peripheral neuropathy, tremors, involuntary movements, muscle weakness, and slight paralyzation). It ended up being from eating fruits and vegetables. I went on a low salicylate/oxalate diet and improved by 75%. Now I am going to try a carnivore diet with added pears and papaya only, to see if I can get to 100% better. Just curious how you made out?
